Landmark Stunt Articles?

A few that are almost universally held in high esteem are the 2 part "Stunting Can Be Smooth" Aldrich/Nobler, Wild Bill's Aerodynamics series, the Impact, the Olympic, Fancher's 2 part on the Imitation and Rabe's Go For Broke Sea Fury story.

One that I have yet to see mentioned, but had a big impression on me was Chris Lella's 3 part late 1970's series in Model Aviation called Balancing For Pitch/Roll/Yaw in CL Stunt Ships. I found that stuff extremely useful and interesting.

Another personal favorite was Windy's Green Box Nobler column in FM (late 1980's?). He mentions at the end that a second article was forthcoming comparing the flying qualities of the smaller classic bird with the larger modern stuff. It was never published, but he told me he did write it.

I also liked Ted's "Excitation" article. It's heartbreaking, but is well written with a tremendous sense of humor a spirit that could not be defeated.

Did any of these or others move you?

Jimmy Casales Spectrum Mk III article where he recounts losing 4 ships back to back and coming back to win the Nat's. Jimmy won the Nat's, I believe 4 times. Jim Silhavy's seminal work on the "Barbell Effect." I feel you pretty much nailed the "must have" articles.

There is one other article in the vein of "Go For Broke", but it's by Ted Fancher. That article is someting that will make a lasting impression on anyone seriouly wanting to take in it's advice; oh, the name of the article is "So You Want to be a Champion Huh"?

One called "The case of the wandering Bellcrank" showed the effect of leadout placement and bellcrank placement.

Rich Porters Ridiculous concerning the 5-7 foot corner.

I think that Rabe's "Mustunt" article to be one of the best ever written, Especially for beginners.

The Al Rabe Mustant article was published in the Feb 73 issue of American Aircraft Modeler.

Some of these have been reprinted in Stunt News or on this forum, especially the one about flyswatter, dumbbell effects on a model in Leonards site.

I know it is not the basic subject of this thread but you made me feel curious !

What happened to Jim Casale ? Is he still flying ? I do remember him well from the 1984 WC in Westover Airforce Base and his Spectrum.

His friend, Lou Doudka provided me with foam wings, flaps and stabs all ready with wood sending me a huge package (free) down to Brazil ( I used to live there at that time) and then I made my first Matrix.

Don't forget Ted's "Doctor/Medic" article in Stunt News.

I admire Ted Fancher's articles IN GENERAL. His AMA column was out of sight, virtually always good. And, of course, the wonderful Imitation articles.

I also admire Al Rabe's articles IN GENERAL. Particularly the Going for Broke stuff.

Al and Ted continue to contribute great stuff, a lot of it on this very forum.

Bob Hunt also wrote some very good articles in columns; Hunt is a general pioneer in stunt, deserving credit for foam wing and pipe developments.

Paul Walker's articles on construction and TRIM.

The Olympic construction articles, by Bob Gialdini. The Continental construction article by Tom Ward.

Construction/technical articles, in general!

Noel Drindak's excellent stuff. Frank McMillan's technical works!

For raw "readability" and general interest, a tip of my hat to Dan Rutherford, obviously an old Dirt Bike reader.. (clue: his use of the term 'high zoot', I know he even remembers Super Hunky..). Although he dresses funny, Dan is one heck of a writer.

Mike Keville also is an excellent writer.

I also appreciate the technical postings and comments of Brett, Igor, Howard, Serge, Randy, and others. And I'm definitely looking forward to Randy's upcoming cowl construction articles in SN!

I know. I'm leaving out others. Truth is, we have a wealth of good material, and much of it appearing in Stunt News nowadays!
