Thanksgiving Family Fun Fly

From 1965-1984, we flew every Thanksgiving. Bro-In-Law, Brother Bob, and whichever friends had hung in there, or just joined. Santa Cruz in 1973 brought the largest number, coming from as far as Sacramento. Total count was 42 planes that year! Soquel High School, 6 miles North of Santa Cruz. Love to resume that, here in Central CA. next year.
This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for the SSW site, and all of Leonard's efforts to bring such a superb group of guys and gals together, without which I would still be floundering in the 'aftermass' of crashed airplanes, only suspecting what probably went wrong! I give thanks for the spirit of fellowship I find every day, and the shared technical assistance that sometimes approaches genius.
I thank all of the fellows that have been generous to a fault, with advice, items sent to me, and consideration in general.

What's the control line scene like in Merced now? It was huge in the early to mid 70's when I lived there. On any given weekend the high school was just packed with people flying anything from combat, and PA on the football fields, to pulse jets,(used to scare the hell out of me) and speed back by the tennis courts. I think the only hobby shop was in the Merced mall. Brings back a lot of memories.

Steve, the old site is still there! It is used primarily for Speed now, on a quarterly basis. Frank Hunt (of Herb's Cyclery fame: Frank bought the shop from Joe Herb when Joe retired.) is C.D., (along with Fred Margarido, of Bay Area) Always a good meet, but dedicated to Speed, Proto, Jet, and the like.
The Hobby Shop is no more, was closed in '95, relocated and re-opened in '96, over on Alexander & 'G'. Finally closed, but Dorothea's Music has changed its name to D's Music,and her son Don has combined a small R/C Hobby Shop within.
This place has turned into a Haven for R/C, much to my chagrin.
I live for the C/L Stunt contests, still some action North of here, worth the drive. Heck, any C/L action is worth the drive to me.
