www.pampa.org: what gives!?

Just for the fun of it, I entered www.pampa.org just to see where it would take me. It looks like some guy out in New Jersey owns it and it's an ad for a remax real estate agent. What gives? Shouldn't domain names with .org at the end belong to non-profit organisations only?

I had a wishfull thinking kind of question. Wouldn't it be nice to have www.pampa.org take you to the PAMPA site?

They should.

That's the way it was designed and intended.

However that was when the internet was used by a small number of universities, government and military and the web had not been invented.

After the web took off and the .com domain name space was gobbled up it was first come first served on the .org and .net name space, without a lot of checking done.

If PAMPA really seriouly cares and can prove prior use, they might win a case to get the domain name back, but so could the Professional Armadillo Mating and Prenatal Association, if they were in existance prior to the real estate guy getting his mitts on the domain name.

Or they might not..

I think the organization would be ahead to offer the current domain name owner free registration of a replacement domain of his choice and an honorary lifetime PAMPA membership to begin with.

With the proper attitude, he might be willing to turn the domain over to a deserving home.

With a letter from a lawyer to start, he might just call his own lawyer and cost the organization a lot of time and effort.

From the looks of the current pampa.org site, it's just a placeholder.

Ask nicely.

See what happens.

I guess hindsight is 20/20... I should have registered it way back when I thought about it before I stopped flying.

I know that stuntnews.com is owned and I think I know who by and that person may/may not be willing to donate it....

just a thought.
