Stunt News and unsolicited advice.

As mentioned before, Tom Morris, as much as I admire him and the extraordinary amount of effort he has put forth on our behalf, assembles Stunt News. As opposed to editing Stunt News.

It is not very often this approach causes any of us angst, but ya know it's been quite a while since we saw a story dedicated to either the Nationals or the Team Trials.

Brett does a terrific job in describing what contests like this were for he and friends, following a big contest Brett's District 10 column is the very first thing I read. Good job. And thanks.

But what about a full and complete article? Pictures. Interviews. Score sheets. Lots of text. All bundled up in one feature article?

One answer to the question is that Tom evidently doesn't think of this in time to do anything about it. Or assumes someone will do it.

No problem! We simply cannot--as in CANNOT!--make any further demands at all when it comes to Mr. Morris and his service to PAMPA.

However, seems to me that a very high percentage of the movers 'n shakers in CL Stunt frequent this site. Maybe we need to use this forum as a tool to determine who might actually cover our big contests.

The upcoming 2004 World Champs coming instantly to mind. Along with the 2004 AMA Nationals.

For many of the same reasons he was easily my choice for PAMPA president, I nominate Keith Trostle for either or both of these assignments.

Anyone else care to raise their hand?

Especially as Keith may well be judging or even putting on the whole show?

Hmmm, what about asking Will Hubin to handle photography, just to ease the burden somewhat? Can we just assume that Noel Drindak will be there to do his charting of the various models, powerplants, weights, etc.? If not Noel, who? (Whom?)

Just as PW, Billy and Ted are prepping right now for these two monster contests, maybe we ought be doing something extra.

Sure would be a bummer to open the September/October 2004 issue of Stunt News and to not learn anything new about either the Nationals or the World Champs.

And I second the motion. Of course Keith may be too busy organizing and judging etc , so it has to be a very polite request, no demands RIGHT. Keith Varley

I could have covered the last Nats. I was there, standing around, mostly waiting for perfect weather and not flying. I'd even have had enough pictures if it weren't for that ol' debil lens cap.

Doug usually does a Nats piece. He was cut short this year with the death of his grandfather.

That lens cap story of yours is beginning to wear a bit thin. And is one of the reasons I suggested Will Hubin be official photographer.

No, no! I don't play those sorts of games. If I were to be planning on being in Muncie in July, I simply would have called Tom and had him sign me up, dropped a courtesy note here.

Actually, I hope to be in the high desert of Oregon come July 2004. Sampling barbecued cougar with Nils while getting in some flying fun, including understanding why he has so much trouble with run-time when down here at low altitude and in oxygen-rich air.

Howard would be good at this. As would Don McClave. I thought we could get this handled within 15 or 20 minutes.

My experience with Stunt news articles has led me to believe that if you want it in Stunt News you will have to do it yourself. For some reason people feel that they’re putting their head on the chopping block if they write something for Stunt News. Also people will think they are trying to impress everyone, (which is total BS). So they won't right for Stunt News, then you get the sorted few that go after the writer if they think he's wrong (which is completely out of line). I've overcome this by convincing myself that if you didn't like don't read it.

With that I'll say for the ump-teen-th time, it sure would be nice to see some of the Sport Flyer's right an article telling of the adventures or their thoughts or just a day in the shop.

At least now I better understand why Tom Morris doesn't call people up, assigning them a coverage job. He's probably thought about it, maybe even tried it. Without any real success.

We've had over 400 looks at this thread--some are multiples by the same guy, I know that--and it appears as if all are sitting on their hands.

Well, I understand that as well. The pay sucks, taking notes will be a distraction from the primary purpose of being there. Back home the pictures--no matter who takes them, and I am hoping Will Hubin will be heavily involved here--will need to be sorted and selected. Plus the text will need writing.

Still, I totally refuse to believe that among the qualified and talented people frequenting this site we can't select, or nominate when they aren't looking, someone who will cover either or both the 2004 Nationals and World Champs for Stunt News.

Having done some coverage of past Brodak events etc. I can honestly say I love doing it. However, it really took up lots of my time and I am more interested in trying to beat some of these big names than cover their glory. Besides, I have a couple new Jr. flyers to coach and I judge Intermediate every year as well as local club presidential duty. Please take me off the list. Down the road when I have actually sorted my trimming and practice issues I will be more than glad to write and do some events coverage again. I love serving the community but have other aspirations.... Dan...better gas up the Van!

If we don't come up with someone willing to take these two assignments, at least we will know that an effort was made here.

At the last moment, a thought: While I know the pay for Stunt News articles is horrible, at least with our PAMPA newsletter/magazine you can handle this assignment any old way you please. Most definitely unlike the way it is handled in commerically-produced magazines.

Thanks for the vote, but I'm not going to either Stunt Orgy.

But, with all of the people on this forum who are going, indeed already have reservations confirmed, there is nobody interested in writing a report about either or both of the biggest and best CL Stunt contests in years?

I refuse to believe it.

Who writes the competitions column? Maybe they should go and write up the contest. It would probably be best done by a non competitor.

Which is exactly why my list does not include our team members when it comes to the World Champs. While Bill W. seems to prefer a ghost writer (Hunt), both Ted and Paul could handle the assignment, they have done so in the past. But I would prefer they not be so burdened, and surely they feel the same way.

Just bringing this back to the top of the list.
