In So. California

All,

I will be in So. Cal on business the weeks of 1-5 and 8-12 Dec so that gives me a weekend to play around there. Anyone flying in the So. Cal area the weeked of 6-7 Dec and if so where at and how do I get there from the area of the Long Beach Airport?

Whittier Narrows is not to far an really easy to get to.You want to take the 405 south to the 605 north to the 60 west exit Rosemead north(right lane) at that point you have to get over to left lane rather quicky an turn into the park.The fly'n area is all the way to the back so after you enter the park go to the left and follow the road all the way around and you can't miss the field. I generally fly at Whittier (Just got back from this morning, in fact), but there is also the Sepulveda Basin area in the San Fernando Valley.

Basically at the intersection of the 101 and 405 freeways. Go north on the 405 to the first exit, Burbank Blvd. Turn left and then right at the first opportunity, Woodman Blvd. Go north about 3/4 mile and there is a turn in to the left. Then backtrack south to the flying area.

Both Whittier and Sepulveda have CL and RC activity. Saturday is often dead at Whittier, but if you give me a call, I can probably make it a point to be there. e-mail at [email protected] or [email protected] and I'll give you my phone numbers.

Trostle and Wright45 are also frequent denizens of Whittier. Even TonyG has been known to be dragged hither on a Sunday (if you promise him a big dose of Ether).

On December 6th and 7th, the Toys For Tots event will be going on at Whittier Narrows. There will be Speed both days and Racing on Sunday only. The Stunt troops are usually on the open circles for informal flying so come on out! Ron

PS. if you are in the area during the week we have our meeting the second tuesday of the week. You should also check with Eric Rule of RSM Dist. He is a local and may know some other events going on. If your in to freeflight too there may be some contest held those weekends, check with Tony.
