ASP .25

Does anyone have experience with this engine they would like to comment on? I searched the board with AND between ASP and .25, but got a lot of hits that seemed unrelated.

Leonard says Magnums and ASP's come out of the same factory, and that appears to be true. I have run a Magnum XL .25 (there used to be a sleeve bearing .25, but not imported anymore), Mike Haverly has run a Magnum XL .28, Dave Pellerin and others, also. They're nice engines, good for sport, stunt, or RC (I guess), but not speed engines. The bearings are not rated for high enough rpm, and I don't think the crank would hold up, but are ok for SLC with better bearings.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to put my currently unemployed XL.25 on an ARF Flite Streak with a Mac's Muffler (but maybe a PAW .19). An XL.28 with Mac's muffler will go on the Primary Force soon. The .28 is a tad lighter, being in the same case. You can check the bores and strokes on the website. The only issue with ASP's is that they don't seem to be for sale here in North America, so you may have trouble finding parts. But then again, Magnum parts will work, and Hobby People does a good job with keeping parts and engines in stock. Hope this helps, Steve

I was running Magnum .28s pretty fast (7x6 prop, 25% nitro, wide open venturi) and never had one blow on me. My Magnum .36 did break the crank, though.

J and J Sales has the ASP 25 for sale at $45. Don't know if it comes with an R/C carb or not.
