My 11 year old son is obsessed with speed. So I fixed up one of the russian F2D combat planes to go fast. I told him to fly straight and level long enough for me to get a time. I timed 5 laps then gave him the signal to fly. He did a wing over and a few other manovers then came back to level flight it looked like a cloud of smoke came off of the airplane. The airplane flew almost one more complete lap and scooted across the grass at 117 mph and came to a stop. It did a nice belly landing. It scooped up a arm load of grass clippings and filled the entire inside of the airplane between all the ribs with grass. It was funny after it was over. John said he saw something come off of the airplane then he had no control. He was giving it up elevator but it just wouldn't go up for some reason. lol. I saw something fly off the airplane too it looked sorta like a cloud of smoke. I picked up the airplane and brushed off the grass and discovered it had no wing covering. The only damage was a broken prop.

This is a common problem with the Russian airplanes, since the covering is just tacked on the edges. One little tear results in huge chunks of the covering coming off. Recover it with Moneykote (or laminating film) and it should be OK.

I was gonna make the same wisecrack, but since them combat guys fly faster...

But you know that abcesses usually just "pop" amd get healed. It seems

I don't think that being "abscessed" with speed is necessarily something that needs to be healed, if channeled in the right directions. Getting involved with Combat, or Racing, or Speed (i.e. control line events) would be good, getting into dragsters, go-karts, speed skating, luge, etc. would also be good, making it to the top ranks of F1 would be REALLY good, but getting into, say, street racing would be bad..

I had a top flite p40 rip it's covering off in mid flight. It flew til the tank ran dry, but with full up applied the entire time. My silkspan and butyrate dope covering had become so brittle it just shattered and flew away. Their was a loud drumming sound before it tore off
