PAMPA Magazine Questions

I had heard or read (or thought I did hehe) that there was a lack of "stuff" to put in the PAMPA magazine.

If the floor is open to suggestions of old articles to re-print, I for one would LOVE to see Ted's "So You Want to Win Huh?" re-printed. I remember reading and then re-reading that several times in my past PAMPA life.

Other suggestions?

I would also like to see a reprint of that particular article (or any of Ted's articles for that matter). The man has a way with words and the CLPA knowledge to go along with it.

I'd vote for reprints of that stuff, too. There are many of us who were either too young or not involved in stunt at the time who have missed out on that and other good stuff. I've really enjoyed some the the SN reprints in the last year or so like Al Rabe's Go for Broke article or the original Nobler article from MAN, etc. I'd be delighted to see more of Ted's eloquent commentary reprinted in SN. It would sure beat digging through my Dad's musty old original magazines and being overcome by mold spores(!)

Yeah, I've got one. Call Tom Morris--he's in the PAMPA yellow directory--tell him of your plans, ask him about the format he can most easily use and then bundle it in same, shoot it off to him.

Ooops, I've got two. Might want to check with Ted, even if only as a courtesy. Be *very* polite. The man is in final assembly of his next world-beater, the Final--I'm not kidding this time!--Edition.

I can assure you the effort will be most appreciated. You won't know this, submitting anything for any enthusiast's publication is not fraught with your phone ringing off the hook with thanks, but it will be appreciated nonetheless.

YEAH, I would like to see that article too. I have heard it is a really good one.....

Yes, you did...and, yes, it will be!

By the way. This short thread is indicative of why I've made the suggestion several times that PAMPA develop a "required reading list" and bundle copies of same in a three ring binder and make it available through PAMPA Products.

Again, like this thread, the response has been pretty underwhelming so it likely wouldn't be worth the effort.

If guys want specific articles I guess the best source continues to be purchasing copies page by page from PAMPA PRODUCTS.

Ted either way it was a GREAT article or so I thought.

When did that come out? I know it was a three part series I think it was the 1993-1995 time frame.

Also re-read the Trivial Pursuit article, still LOVE the looks of that plane.

I think it's great idea. I'd certainly buy it. I'd read it too!

(I hadn't responded earlier, cause I hate to jump into discussions
where I'm suggesting things for other people to do.)

I think it would certainly be worth the effort. There are a whole bunch of us "retreads" who quit flying before PAMPA was formed.

When asked what we would like to see reprinted from PAMPA ..... we haven't a clue what WAS PRINTED!

A lot has happened while I've been gone and it certainly would shorten the old curve if there was even an archive of articles or better yet ..... you people who have been involved for along time come up with the must read list for guys like me.

I'm a member of PAMPA and joined almost immediately after getting back it to this hobby. I would be happy to pay for reprints.

At this point it's kind of like trying to respond to "Tell me what you don't know?"

The response is "unwhelming" because the topice hasn't been up that long.

I read it when it came out, but I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I recently re-read your Excitation article on the AMA site. Good stuff there.

I am a retread. I retired from C/L early 70's after
doing well in team racing , 3 classes, never learned to do
more than loop.
How about a series similar to Larry Cunninghams Mo Best
articles, but on flying .
Start with field prep, go on to trimming, first loops , inverted
handle attitude, getting the squares etc right down to contest
flying,travelling take apart models??
I get the feeling there are enough of us not qualified, like
myself, who would buy this on paper and video or even DVD format

Thinking in a sefish manner of course !

I agree wholeheartedly that a, say, spiral bound "must-read" compilation of the most informative/significant articles would be a big hit. When I joined PAMPA, I ordered the PAMPA bibliography of CLPA articles available from PAMPA. New members who didn't, may have little real idea of what is available. As documented on various threads, expertise from those familiar with the original articles is necessary in choosing among them for particular purposes, since the whole list is vast. Personally, I'd buy a hard copy containing the best technical articles and one on trimming. This could be a nice series that would benefit all, serving to preserve information and record the contributions of some of CLPA's best. Questions of copyrights would naturally need to be addressed and acted upon, but I don't see that preventing republishing/distributing most, if not all, of the good stuff.

Oh, no Ted this simply will not do!!!

I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!! Please, please, please, reprint all the good stuff again. There is literally an entire generation that has not been exposed to this stuff!

My list would include:
1. All of Ted's stuff.
2. All of Frank William's stuff.
3. All of Al's stuff.

Bob Hunt's stuff is all in FM. Maybe it could be reprinted in SN, but I doubt it. Anything by Werwage, Casale, Baron, Windy, Walker, or Brickhaus.

...and just to be a little honest here, A LOT of the stuff in SN today is reprints of "old time" stuff. No one seems to mind that.

I vote with godzilla here. And if our numbers are low, will lots of begging by our meager numbers make up for it??

Having all the good stuff in one binder would be an awesome reference.

Since 1998 I have been collecting older magazines, back issues of SN and downloading stuff on here. I have 9 binders full of "stuff" from designing, building, flying the pattern, triming, painting, engines, lines, fuels, props and history of many planes, people, etc. Are you guys aware of the size of the binder needed?? It'll be a biggie.

bet it would fit on one CD or at the most 2.

Throwing my hat in the ring for the must read package, I would order it in a second if available. I have the bibliography but like most, unless I hear someone recommending a particular piece I have no idea what to order.

I think al,s Mustunt article and plans would be a good reprint.
Lots of stuff to get the intermediate and advanced thinking.
Might want to skip over the rudder part though; after twenty years , it still eludes me.
I beleive there is a use for it ,but can,t get the sensitivity right
Marshall Busby says iam too hard headed to give up. He may be right.

I've been thinking, believe it or not, that an annual index for Stunt News would be worth while for all of us new or old. How would one go about suggesting this to Tom Morris? Or should I just go ahead and send him an email? Phil Spillman

When "suggesting" more work for Tom Morris, the only proper approach is to volunteer to do it yourself, making clear to Tom that you only want to have your ducks in a row first, to not do what someone else has already taken on as an assignment.
