Converting a Norvel .074

In an earlier post about Norvel .15's, Dennis mentioned converting A Norvel R/C .074 to a venturi, with .061 parts. Has any one here tried this? This might be a useful engine in the larger 1/2A planes such as the 1/2A Pathfinder.

The 1/2A Pathfinder with a Norvel .061 has more than adequate power.
The .074 might be (IMHO) overkill.

Not to mention a heckuva lot more expensive. The BigMig .061 CL StartUp is truly one of the few real bargains left in the world..

Actually since I got mentioned in this posting I should respond. The conversion is very practical and is really appropriate for a lot of the older designs that used the old type 15's. I.E Fox,K&b.
I have them on a pair of Flying Models designs that origionally used the Fox. In my opinion they fly as well or better then the Fox equivelant.
For what it's worth the Norvel 15 venturi and nva will fit their 25. I have done this but haven't had a chance to use it in anything yet. It is a light motor and from what I hear has a lot of power, but can be finiky as some of the RC combat flyers have said on several occassions.
For the money the Norvels are a real bargain. Wonder if they will ever release their 40.

Is the .061 venturi just a simple bolt on proposition? I have a.061 powered 1/2A pathfinder, but would still like to try the .074. I guess I am afflicted with the Tim Taylor syndrome ----- MORE POWER!

Don, That's it in a nutshell. Buy the unit from Norvel, I can't remember the price but it's higher then it should be. and just swap it over. I find that the 074 and a Cox 7/3 is a great combination.
I'd be interested in what you end up with for lines. Since I don't fly in contests with these planes I've already used 55 foot 008 lines.

Norvel .061's with the Revlite cylinder have venturis that are bolted in. Previous models used epoxy to hold them in place.

Lite Machines helicopters has a neat verion that has a bushed case and extra forward mount lugs. Comes with a nice tall venturi and needle. You just need to get a head clamp and drive washer from sig. Havent run it much was planing on using it on a junior Flite Streak.
