Hi Ken,
I did mean to put in the "1st", but left it out by mistake.
I have built those three planes, but I didn't have the correct color scheme for the T-Bird II.
I am getting ready to build Mr. Grondal's "Nobler" next. I was privilegded to be able to talk to Mr. Grondal before his passing, and found out quite a bit about the "Nobler" he built. A very fine gentleman. Also met, and talked with several times, Mr. Palmer last summer at Brodak's. Another outstanding gentleman.

I love those mountains in the background. It looks exactly like the Trinity Range near my hometown in northern Nevada. Now I am homesick.
I have built two of those models and am waiting on the third. If it doesn't get here soon, I will scratch build the thing.

Oh, KenD...I got an email out of the blue from a Dave Carkeek. At least I think it was Dave. Didn't really understand why. Our website does have a map to an official flying site in Seattle,(one circle, concrete carrier deck, rest grass, NO NOISE restrictions) in "Carkeek Park". Unrelated, I trust. I don't know if he read this thread, or did a search for his name with Google, etc. Oh, well. Thanks for the pic. I really like Bob Palmer's designs, and see his 'fluence in the "Larakin Mk.1". :> Steve

Those mountains are farther away than they appear. And the valley floor is at 4,000 ASL, so yes, those are mountains. Not of course the Grand Tetons or Sierras or Rockies. However, they still look like home to me. Only our sand is yellow and has salt in it and lots of sagebrush.

I was standing just behind the photographer when the picture was taken. I believe that this was technically the second world championships. There was an event in 1958 that was billed as the world championships and won by Josef Gabris.
Bill, I have good transparencies of all these models but don't have a way to scan them. I'm working on it.

Take the transparencies to a good photo shop and have proofs made. Ask them if them can make Jpegs of them too. Most good photo shops can do that now. Then take the Jpegs and compress them to less than 50k and share them with all of us here on SSW. Wynn Paul would love to have copies of them too for his treatise on Stunt.

Don Still was 2nd, Bob Palmer was 3rd, and Steve Wooley was 4th of 43 entries. Grondol was 1st. And Bill Little has already told us that the U.S. team was first.

What was that fenced off area just behind the planes?

That was the race car rink. Roller ball was outlawed at the time:)
