Windy Proposal

I just talked to Windy and he told me some interesting stuff.

I was looking for Baron tapes from 1996. He did some digging through his some 800 tapes and dug up two that had the bulk of the flying I wanted. He commented there were more on other tapes.

I said it would be VERY COOL if someone could go through all the tapes and condense all the serious flying into a historical record. Something like "Nationals and Team Trials" for every year that Windy had tapes. Or maybe tapes of a particular flyer from all the years on one tape.

Surprisingly, he said he would be glad to loan the tapes to anyone who wanted to produce these videos.

Bruce Hunt's name came up a few times.

It would be something I could do. I have been gradually collecting all of Windy's Nats tapes since 1990. So far I have all but the 1999 Nats Tapes.

I also have the ability to edit and compile video into different collections. This would be somewhat labor intensive (there's an understatement) and it would be helpfull to know what kind of compilations people would want. Flights of particular pilots. Walker fly-offs. Walker Cup Winning flights. Appearance judging over the years. Five best flights from particular years. Video of Windy going through the leaky tunnels in Pensylvania every year. Maybe a "Chinese Menu" where you order what you would want.

So, maybe we could use this forum to discuss what the most interesting tapes could be and I will look to producing them. Since I would be using Windy's footage, I'll work out some kind of license agreement with him. It would be useful to know if anyone else has video from the NATS or otherwise that could be added to the database.

It is amazing how quickly people forget significant happenings on this web site.

Remember when Ted announced his willingness to dyno-test various motors? And the response was one big ball of "Do it *this* way, everybody else's ideas/suggestions/protocol/methodology sucks like totally!!!!"

Well, there it was, just laying on the ground not doing anyone any damage at all, yet you and Ted have both been able to stick your feet fully into a big mess of cow flop.

My congratulations. At least you're in good company.

(And note that we have not since heard a single peep out of Ted concerning his dyno. I have even prodded him about it; he stays safely tucked into his shell.)

Now that I'm "RETIRED" I would love to help.

Here's one not so simple idea anyway....Make a comparision tape showing the flights of the Top competitors at the World Campoinships and at the Nats. That would be easy for 2004, other years like 2002, 2000 and 1998 would be harder, but we could get a lot of good information about the contrast between other countries ideas of the pattern and the U.S. ideas.

I like that idea and suggested something similar, but I think that most of Windy's tapes are of the US Nats and the Team Trials and he only has a few WC's.

I agree that a single year in total (Nats and Team Trials) with the top flights would be SUPER COOL!!!! I would take a copy of every year!

BTW Bruce Windy is totally open to the idea. He even kind of suggested either cheap or free. He understands there is a ton of work involved for whoever takes on the task, and the rewards should go there. Please feel free to call Windy to confirm, but he was totally gung ho and mentioned you by name.

My guess would be the big contests or particular flyers would make excellent packages.

Now look here, I didn't kill Ted's idea. It was all the unsolicited advice that caused Ted to duck and cover.

Gonna be the same thing here, I'm afraid. I was just giving my friend a heads-up on his conduct.

(Bruce quit calling on me for this sort of advice when I delivered in-process sauerkraut to his home, criticized his completely amateurish way of making what can only very loosely be referred to as scrambled eggs: "Bruce, *what* are you doing?!)

That would be an absolutely wonderful service. Imagine, all of the paint masking videos on one tape! Engine test and development on another. Peeps pooping all over the place for the bird lovers. All of the pizza eating episodes on another still. Count me in.

Question - could you do DVD as well as VHS?

I would buy it for sure, if I knew it was filmed from a fixed position.

I know Windy is a big fan of following the plane through the maneuvers but it makes it real hard to see how the pilot is actually flying the plane.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I've made a few DVD's. As a production process at home it's not quite ready for primetime. Problem is the writing process for a DVD exceeds the length of the movie writen by a significant amount. I can edit and write to a master VHS tape and produce copies on a dedicated copy tape deck all in real time.

The tape I produced of VSC 15, took a couple days of editing to produce the master tape. From there on I was making copies at the rate of one every two hours for the next couple weeks to fill all the orders that came in.

Another option would be to produce computer playable CD or DVD disks using Microsoft Media Format or Quicktime. These wouldn't play on DVD players however. If anyone has a better process, I would be interested.

An amateur chef, but I find cooking to be an enjoyable process. Cooked most of a Thanksgiving dinner, weekend following the holiday. Having the kids invite us to their dinners is great, except for the distinct lack of left-overs in suitable quantities. So I spent all day making my own left-overs. Including a couple pumpkin pies which began the process as seeds planted in my garden...

I will not tell you how I make scrambled eggs, mainly 'cos it's nothing special, merely good practice.

Instead, let me tell you what I don't do. I don't crack eggs into a pre-heated pan and then go banging them off the side of pan and whisk such as the person who will remain named Bruce Hunt has been known to do.

The next morning I made breakfast.

Ah, the old do it in a bowl and mix in the ingredients, then pour it into a frying pan. I cook every day. Love it. I'm hellonwheels with Lasagna and various Italian foods. Learned from my Grandmother Marcucci. She gave me recipes she wouldn't give her own daughter. Ha. But I prefer butchering balsa. (note-delete smileyface here)

Yes, with a fork. And the oldest eggs in the reefer. Remove from heat while still shiney, they will continue to cook. And dry scrambled eggs are not the goal.

How in the world did we get to talking about this? Dr. Spark is probably livid with rage.

We'll bring it full-circle: Some of the best food I eat every year is cooked at a CL circle or within close proximity. At the 2003 Roundup we had a combination--endlessly written about in Stunt News District 11 column--that was both accidental and exceptionally good food.
