"Sandcast" Fox Needle

Well,

I guessmy guestion got lost in the Fox ID thread so I'll ask it seperately.

This Fox I have is complete except for ,what else, the needle valve. It has a ratchet spring like the later Foxes but I was told that the needle valve had a T bent on the end. So does it use the ratch spring or has someone added that? Can someone measure one up and let me know diameter, length etc so I can make one up?

Randy, --- The Sandcast Foxes used an Austin Craft NVA which were available separately back in those days. The Needles were straight (as purchased) so I assume that the Fox people put the "T" bend in during production. You can still find these NVA's floating around on ebay once in a while, as I just bought one NIP for $13 shipped - just to make one of my Sandcast Foxes complete.

Thanks Bob, I'll keep my eyes peeled. I like to have the correct parts around even if I decide to use the engine with a different NVA.

Even though Tony's great CAD drawings show the Austin Craft on an early, 6 bolt head die cast model, it also is OK on the 4 bolt Sandcasts.

As another observation, you can easily see the difference between the thin early head, and the later one, which also was intro'ed on the 3 bolt backplate Sandcast.

Mine is the 3 bolt with the thin head, were there some early ones with that head or do I have a bastard?

RR: I think that some early 3 bolt backplate ones came from the factory with the thin head. I have one like this, too. Currell
