Torpedo .32 info please

This is the first .32 that I've seen. It does not have the green head, is that correct?
What I need to know is when or if K&B changed the color of the heads?
And what color is the green…..BRAND, SAMPLE, WHERE TO GET IT, PART NUMBER!

Scott - I have two .32s. One has a green head and a straight plug and green head, the other has a slanted plug and a plain aluminum head. If yours is the straight plug version, go to an auto parts store that sell Plasti-Cote spray paint. They make (or made) a color called medium green that was an almost exact match for the K&B green. I used some a few years back and it worked like a charm. Make sure you cure it at around 200 degrees before you expose it to fuel - I learned that the hard way and had to re-do it.

You can edit, edit your post within the (current) allotted time of two days. So, if you catch an error, just go back and edit it.

I had to limit the edit time when not just one, but two people who started a lot of posts got mad and decided to leave us with none of their "wisdom" remaining. Thus they would ask a question or pose a bit of "wisdom", people would respond, and they would erase their portion leaving everytning else hanging in space.

Oh, not to mention that when you edit, it throws everythning to the front again--only this time it was just a bunch of blank spaces.

But, if you catch an error and want to fix it. Go ahead.

The early straight plug Torpedo .32's had silver heads. The later models had green heads. The earlier slant plug Glow - Torp .32's all had silver heads. That's what I see looking at mine.

So when did they change to the green head?

What is the serial number on your engine, Scott?

Also, does it have a straight or angled glow plug?

Also, does it have a 3 or 4 bolt backplate?

maybe these will help the guys see them if they are what your talking about

The one in my boxcar Chief has an unpainted head. Centered, straight plug. It's got a lot of poop but it sure is a noisey little bugger.

Your .32 is probably a 1951 model. K&B started painting all the heads green in 1952. However, the .29R of 1955 had a natural colored head.
After the older K&B three and four bolt backplate engines went out of production, the process of painting heads ceased. With the advent of the 61 series, and subsequent, all heads were again silver.

Do you have Symantec software firewall? I get this message, and have to disable it while I am uploading. Then it works fine.

One thing to notice on many engines of this vintage is that the mounting lugs are not on the crankshaft centerline. This is important when building your plane...especially for spinner alignment! Also an item to easily overlook.
Some Forster engines came with standoffs to mount under the lugs if you were building a plane that had beam mounts on the center line. Perhaps some other engines did too.
