Is there a glossary of the most common abbreviations and terms used in this forum?I am sure it would be helpful. Google told me to quit asking questions. :)

Well Leon, here are a couple.

"ABC" stands for a type of motor with an Aluminum piston, Brass cylinder, Chrome plated. Of course, before we got so smart, your teacher used the term for the whole alphabet. (ABCs)

"ARF" stands for the new airplanes that are "Almost Ready to Fly".
In the good old days we called it an "ARF" when it was a dog that was too heavy to fly.

"BOM" stands for "Builder Of the Model: rule. This, of course, gets a lot of static on this forum so it has led to a new term:
BUM, which stands for anyone who disagrees with you on BOM.

And "Uh Oh" stands for either
"I just spilled coffee on the keyboard"
"I just posted a message without bothering to read it over and..." or
"My boss just caught me checking the forum while I was supposed to be working."

OK, guys, your turn. What are some others?

Len, those are the easy ones,

what about IMHO, LMAO, BTW and some others?

Those are the ones that I got confused by...

Well IMHO is short for "In My Humble Opinion" which often times isn't all that humble. But it is still a good practice to include this just to make it appear to be so.

LMAO stands for "Laughing My (uh, we better not go into that word, but it was the animal that Mary rode to Bethlehem when they coldn't get a taxi) Off". In other words, when you see this one you either told a good joke or made a stupid blunder that saying IMHO just isn't good enough to counter.

BTW is short for "By The Way". Of course, it is even shorter if you just skip "by the way" and go on and say what you wanted to say. But sometimes you have to include these little things or we wouldn't get posts like this asking what they meant.

So you could combine all these and say something like "BTW IMHO ILAO after seeing you try to fly the pattern at the last contest."

Maybe you should post a list of the ones you're confused about & let us explain them for you, otherwise we're just stabbing in the dark.

Some I use are: NVA (Needle Valve Assembly), TMA (Tail Moment Arm), BC (Bellcrank), LO's (LeadOuts), LG (Landing Gear), P&L (Piston & Liner), SHCS (Socket Head Cap Screws), ROFLMAO (Rolling On Floor, Laughing My A$$ Off), C&R (Catch & Release). Sometimes the stunt pattern tricks might be abbreviated, like TO (TakeOff), WO (Wing Over), Sq.8 (Square 8), and Clover (4 leaf clover). Abbreviated landings are bad news, and we've all done them. I can't think of any more, luckily. Steve

And of course there is the old "Elevator Throw" or "ET" for short which is an Olympic event usually dominated by the Russians but won recently by the Chinese (steroids were suspected but never proven)

And F15H, which would be "Fox 15 Hurl"...

Expert..Pronounced (ex'spurt) ex--a nobody or has-been. spurt, a drip under pressure.

There are a fair number of them on these boards.

I do think it would be a good idea just to ask. Most here (in spite of the smarta## comments) are quite willing to help. Some tend to use a telegraphic style during disscussions or fall into jargon in order to shorten posts.

Just ask.

I agree, Randy. I tend sometimes to joke around (just so we don't get too serious all the time) but did try to answer the question while doing so. But if anyone says something that you can't understand, just ask. I do.

C.G. = Center of Gravity. Made famous of course by
Carl Goldberg.

B.B. = not the pellets that you would put in a air pump gun and shoot at soda cans or
a ball bearing engine
but Brett Buck, a professional control line pilot.

T.F. = Not the Top Flite company but another top pilot Ted Fancher.

PAMPA= Not the Precision Aerobatics Model Pilots Association but short
for men who are in a club wearing diapers and act like babies, like PAMPERS. (Mine are full and need cleaning)

D.D.T. =Not the dangerous chemical that kills bugs but a guy whose humor/sarcasm
can be funny and grating, Dirty Dan Traits.

FOX= Not the cute babe next door but a engine that burps on the outside corners
then again that might be the cute babe but a tad drunk from cheap wine.
And hundreds more!!!!!!!

Quite funny. But not grating. Even to me.

Takes years and years of practice to be both.

4-2-4 was one that someone had to splain to me.

When a engine changes cycles.
Not sure I would even know what it sounds like. Mine just sputters then quit. Guess that would be a 2-1-0.

SWMBO: She Who Must Be Obeyed: Originally from the H. Ryder Haggard novel, "She", but you can probably guess the current meaning

DIHWIDT: D*** I Hate When I Do That: multiple applications, but super-glueing one's fingers together comes to mind

MTCO: Measure Twice; Cut Once - self-explanatory

I have on old Fubar kit. Now that was a well named free flight plane. In the Navy we replaced Fubar and Snafu with "hogans goat". Don't ask me to splain on line.

SNAFU means Situation Normal, All Fouled Up. This came from somewhere in the army, but is quite applicable to what usually happens to your equipment about 5 minutes before you are due to fly your first qualifying flight at the Nats. Quite a SNAFU, yup!
