Ok, I know there were two versions of the Veco Tomahawk.
Who has plans available for the first version?

Try Brodak Manufacturing. My ex flying buddy, CR, received a set of those plans from John Brodak. He complained a few years ago about the fact that he ordered a Tomahawk kit from the local hobby shop based on the catalog picture. When the kit arrived, it was for the later version, even though the picture on that kit box was still for the first version. John Brodak acknowledged the error and told CR that, as soon as the current stock was sold out, Brodak would be selling the first version, as he, too, preferred that style of Tomahawk as well. I believe that Brodak is now sold out of the first run(s) of kits and is now selling the original version.

(Edit: I just checked at the Brodak web site to verify the information above and found the web page describing the currently offered Tomahawk to be still somewhat confusing. See:

The picture indicates the older version while the description at this page,

"The Tomahawk is a reproduction of the revised (Sic) Veco kit. An easy-to-
build design that features a very durable construction, the Tomahawk is
part of Brodak's popular 'Nostalgia Series',"

indicates otherwise. Perhaps someone who has very recently purchased a kit from Brodak can clarify this. Otherwise, I'd recommend a call to Brodak to verify.

CR did, indeed, get a set of plans for the original version from Brodak.)

Scott, PLEASE read Leonard's post, #5. Click on HTML Reference, and after it opens, highlight the page. Then right click, then "copy", then minimize, go to any word type program, notepad, etc, and paste, then print. Bingo, you have your sheet of instructions on using HTML here. Frankly, it's a PITA, and you have to really want to do this. It makes sense to do it for your club's website, but not here, IMO. Steve

The easy answer, and I won't color mine, is to click on "reply with quote". There you can see how they used the html options to change size, color, and well, you know.

hey Bill,

The current Brodak Tomahawk offering is indeed the older version. I just built one a few weeks ago. Its all laser cut as well. I imagine they should sell the plans for it...

How about posting more info on your Tomahawk...power, weight, covering...photos? Steve

Dare Engineering's kit of the Sporthawk is an improved version of the first Tomahawk with a better airfoil, more wing area, and better moments. It still retains the look of the Tomahawk while being a better airplane. It is also laser cut.

Hey Steve,

I actually have not gotten a photo of the little Tomahawk yet. Weight is 28 ounces finished, all monokote finish in the skyblue monokote. Power is a box stock LA-25S, three ounce brodak uniflo tank. Prop initially is an apc 9x5, stock OS plug that came with the motor. Lines are 58' eyelet to eyelet 0.015s. The plane is about the only one I've built that actually flew off the board, but getting consistent engine runs has been a bit of an issue. Right now the runaway issues have been helped with fuel muffler pressure, but it still has very poor fuel draw with the factory venturi and remote nva. I may see if I can get a ST needle assembly to fit which may help. If I can get my hands on an apc 9x4 I may try running it in a full runaway mode like Brett Buck advocates for the FP-20/Skyray setup, but I doubt that will help the fuel draw situation. I actually built the plane more to see what laser cutting was like as opposed to actually flying it, but some of my flying buddies (who LOVE to tinker with stuff that isn't working quite right) keep making me send it up so they can figure out how to make it perfect. I have to admit, if we get the motor sorted out, I wouldn't hesitate to enter it in profile or even classic-it flies that well.

I was gonna buy a Streak ARF for this motor, but decided to spend the money on the laser cut job and do it myself. I sort of made it an "ARF" by precovering all the subassemblies and then just slapping it together with epoxy. ##### if it didn't work just fine that way, and now I have something different to fool with.
