I'm doing one of Richardskits Veco Squaw and have come to a decision.
I initially was setting this up for an OS20FP but really wasn't too enthused about it as it was in my opinion a little too much for the plane. Tonite as I was sanding the wing and thinking about having to mount the motor next it dawned on me that I had a stash of the older S series. They really were the F series but oh well.
So I go into the vault and pull out a box with a pile of new old motors and sure enough I have 3 NIB,
So why am I relating all this good news, well the motor weighs 6 oz and looks better in the plane then the FP, I know it's my opinion. Now I have run these motors years ago but always as an RC motor. So before I commit to this I need to remember or have someone elses memory jogged as to power and handling of these motors. By the way these are C/L motors with the proper venturi and period NVA.
First is this enough to fly this plane, I think so. If a 25 can fly a Veco Chief then this should be plenty for a Squaw.
Secondly has anyone spent enough time with one of these to give me any info on run charicteristics. Obviously I am not interested in a 4-2-4 with this motor but need to know if it needs head gaskets, venturi change, fuel will be Powermaster 10/29 or 10/25, prop should be around 9-4.
I could have copped out and put a Veco 29 3 bolt on it but I really hate to use the old iron, parts and attrition are too tough on me anymore.
Thanks for any info. It will be appreciated.

I have a couple of the .25 size of this engine. The factory venturi was just a little too large, so I trimmed it down with aluminum tubing. For the .25 with the OS needle valve, .250 seemed to be about the max for consistant runs. Otherwise, it runs much like a Max S 35 with the exception of the prop. A 9X4 prop seemed to be the optimum back when I was running these engines, but there were no 9X5 props available then. The engines also need the same high castor fuel that the .35 needs. I have one of Larry Richards terrific kits for the Little T-Bird, and plan to use the .25 on it. I assume the .20 runs the same except for the reduced displacement. For the Squaw, this could be a good match. Less power than a Fox 35, but a little less weight.

The older I get, the better I used to fly!

They didn't really call them S Series, but I know what you mean...

Go ahead and use as is; no added head gaskets, for example.

This engine works well on the Veco "tweeners", like the Warrior, Brave, Papoose, Squaw.
