We have a Throwback Control Line Modeler in our club. "Stevenson" can fly I belive 5 planes at once 1) a Football helmet with attatchment,
2) one in each hand,3)I think I saw one on each knee . I might need some backup here from Dave Gardner,Bob Parker Or Bill Darkow .
Not to mention he has over 1,000 engines.

4 - CB .46 stunt, a helluva 46, as strong as a ST .51! I'm, breaking it in, and it has one bad thing: the frontier between the ideal prime for starting up and gettin' flooded is very narrow, and if the sonafagun is flooded it hits your fingers very efficiently (ouch!).

5 - Veco .19BB that I "gave" to Bob Kruger, still sittin' at hhe shop.

I have this strange compulsion to give engines to my friends, I've given away an OS LA.46, a .25FP, a .35 FP

It does, and I have given out a good bit of hardware to budding flyers. I wish I had a better return on my investment, though... Perhaps more of them will actually build and fly in the future.

But look, on that Veco 19, just get it running and put it in the nose of a Flite Streak or Sig Skyray 35. If you need a copy of the plans, let me know. Its about the most fun you can have with your pants on.... .

Walter (Umland) wrote me about this friend of his that wants BADLY a Veco .19.

The story is that the best ship he ever had was a snall t-Bird with a Veco, and he wnats to do it again.

I told him that I had this one just sittin' around here, witha no compression, but that it as yours.

If you want to be galant, lemme send him the engine, after all it's just a toy for us, and it seems pretty important to him.

If you give me your blessing I'll give it to him.

The only reason Ihaven't trashed it is because it has a sentimental value.

I had this friend IVO, he was a helluva machinist, and he was a fan of Clarence Lee.

The Veco belonged to my buddy Eneas. a very good pilot.

One day he was in a finacial squezze and he called me affering the engine plus a nice ship for sale.

I boughtit, but when Ivo heard about the story he was kinda... frustrated.

Since he ws such a nice guy and had done so many things for me at no cost, I decided to give it to him.

Then, a year later he passed away.

His widow leraned that I had gibven it to him and she called me and gave it back to me, plus another one.

I saw that he had "canibalized" the two vecos and mado one with the best parts.

When I went to her place to get the engine I warned her tha Ivo had a liter of nitro, and that she should find it and store it in a safe place.

We looked for it and we found it.

She wanted to pour it down the toilet, but I told her to "give it to me!!"

Anyhow, If it's OK wth you I'll send it to Walter's friend.

Or I can send it to you or do as you told me, get it fixed (Daniel, from VC engines said he can do it) and get it running, that's what engines are made for...

I think that's it for now, but the inventory changes pretty regularly depending on what I'm flying. But I did recently give away an OS 35FP. It found a nice home in an 80 MPH combat plane.

Motors are like Tribbles with me, they just seemed to keep multiplying.
I haven't counted them recently but there was around 300 the last time I looked. Compared to the collectors thats not an excessive number.
Made the mistake of sending a few pics to Steve Hemlick and got the usual reaction. Good thing I never showed him the old stuff most of it NIB.
Only downside is that they really do take up a fair amount of room.

I never set out to be a "collector". I was ribbing John Paris that he had more stuff than me and therefore was the collector among us. He pointed out that I had more motors and that I should count them. That is the list I made after going thought them all. I blame it mostly on the Bay. Even thought I don't need it I can't seem to pass up a good deal. I just bought 7 Cox motors for 50 bucks, there was a TD .049, Medallion .049, and .010 in the pile. Johnny did mention that if I made a list I would reduce the spending since I would know what I have and won't buy 2 or more of them. I do plan on reducing the size of my collection since I only want to keep the ones I plan on using. Another one of Johnny's idea is to match the motor to the kit I plan on building. That way I would only buy what I need and not just because it's a good deal.
Now to count the kits.

Wow, I went to my inventory and thinking I had about 35 I now have 93 of these things. My latest is an LA .40. I keep them in a dark, dry place and I think they multiply there!! My oldest is an O&R .60 ignition. Many are still in the box they came in, never run or even tested!. These and kits sure do total up fast. Now to build and get these engines into the proper planes. Yeah, right!!

I hope he doesn't mind, but this is John Paris' list. Not too far behind me I might add. I also will mention that he has about 30 planes ready to fly.

Position report: We are now about 675 miles SW of Long Beach Harbour with about 2200 miles left to the launch site. Average speed so far has been about 9 Knots but we have picked up some speed with a bit calmer conditions to about 10.8 Knots. We will probably be at the launch site around 0500 hours on the 7th of January.

Wow, that's a long trip. I guess after you launch the thing, you will have to paddle back, right? I may have built an airplane for that engine by the time you get back to Virginia.

I'll still let you try it out, so you can see if it's what you need for your plane.

After it's launched I get to ride back on the Command Ship. That one goes about 19 knots. A lot shorter trip back! I should be back in Manassas around 18 or 19 Jan 2004. See you next year!

One of the problems with the Wankel is it voracious appitite for fuel. You would need a 7 oz tank to get through the pattern. A lot of them were ruined by people that never read the instructions. Fuel is supposed to contain at least 25% oil. Yes, it really has this neat hum as it runs and the idle will make you think of a 4 cycle. I haven't run any of mine in years and now at over $300.00 for one, I'd probably pass on buying one. Dennis

phallocentrist, heteropatriarchalist, or other violation of the rules of
political correctness, known or unknown, I am not sorry and I encourage you
to get over it.

I haven't flown mine in years, either. I had it on a Midwest Sweet Stick (RC) and it flew very well. It had a definite "step" in the power band and once you hit that, the engine really put out as much power as a good .40.

I never had any problems with fuel or oil, running 5 - 10 percent nitro and 20 percent Klotz. of course, that was with an RC plane, not CL. I typically run 22 - 24 percent lube in my CLPA ships.

If I ever get around to building the 38 Special, it will be just for fun. Thanks for the info.

Some years ago, I visited "The Prop Shop" and the late Clarance Bull in Harrisburg OR. In addition to a complete tour of his B-Y&O prop operation, Clarence showed me his extensive engine collection. It was truly wonderful! I took lots of pictures and published an article in SAM SPEAKS on his propeller machinery (the same as the Y&O machines of the '40s).

Unfortunately, soon after Clarence died, his engine collection was raided. The police in Harrisburg and Eugene only recovered a few of his engines, but only after a hobby shop owner alerted the police about a suspicious seller. (and the engines were traced to Clarence). Even so, much of his engine collection remains lost.

I didn't count the engines that Clarence had, but there was a cabinet at least 6' tall and crammed with engines. I estimate over 300..

My wife says TOO **#%+@$$%*%!!! many.
I think around 250.

1 Rifle cabinet full of rifles and shotguns and alot of ammo.
There are probably more engines but I don't feel like counting anymore. I done forgot the 2 OS 58 5 OS 50 and 6 OS 49's! Obviously I collect engines. I don't know the sanity to doing this as there is never to many. An old saying has it as this: One is to many and a thousand will never be enough. Also have over 100 kits in that locker as well. Collect more then I build, build more then I fly.

Dr Spark, did you get to see Shorty Spies collection when you saw Clarence Bulls? About 1500 engines in a hermits house to put it politely. Full cans of tobacco juice everywhere. You needed a strong constitution to see that collection and survive. About 600 of his engines were sparkies and alot of them were NIB. Unbelieveable.
