Engine "Re-work" guy's, recomendations f

I've got a STG51 (Italian) type,which I'd
like to have re-worked for full stunt use.

I've seen Tom Lay's name menioned on the forum
regulary, does he have a website or contact details?

Any other good reputable Engine re-builders for the
ST G51? I'd also be interested to hear from people
who have had their motors re-worked.

I have a Tom Lay ST 51 like you describe, I think.
It has a "squareish" head, not the old 51 that looks kinda like the 46. It performs flawlessly, with a ton of power and an outstamding
4-2 break. Mine is 10 years old, and still strong. It began it's "stunt life" in a 64 oz. SV-11 and is now in my USA-1.
I would recommend it to anyone! Tom really does excellent work on the Super Tigres.
I am not sure if Leonard does the ST's, but I know that Tom Dixon does. Also Randy Smith and Byron Barker. Might be others, but Tom Lay has a great reputation for Tigres.

You can't go wrong with Tom Lay. Knows his stuff and does his homework.

I have a Tom Lay ST 51, and its a great motor. However, from what I understand, Tom doesnt "rework" the ST 51's for stunt per se, that is he doesnt mess with the timing or compression. He told me that he hardens the sleeve, puts in a new ring, and laps the bearings. He also fits a standard venturi. You really dont have to have a ST 51 "reworked" for stunt, it is a great stunt motor right out of the box. However at a minimum I would rework the venturi, and if you want a very long lasting motor go with Tom, he does great work.

Hi Brian,
When I last talked to Tom, he said the "new" Chinese/Italian engines were timed right, however, IIRC the older square head 51's need a "little" help in the timing area. My '93 engine had an R/C sleeve, and I'm not sure that they all had the same sleeve at that time. The new ones carry different parts numbers for the sleeves.
So, I gues it's which version of this engine someone has.
Either way, I'm sending all the ST's I get to Tom .

Tom Dixon also did rework on the st .51.
I never had one of the 51's but i've used
other engines that were modified by him
with excellent results

I HAVE, Tom Dixon, Tom Lay, And Randy Smith re-works. ALL I MEAN ALL ARE GOOD.

You know; I just don,t know why the big engine manufacturers can,t
,or won,t , make a great out of the box stunt engne.

They do. The PA series from Randy Smith and the RO-Jett from Richard Oliver and Dub Jett work just dandy as they come from the factory. So do the OS .40 VF and, it appears, the Siato four-strokes, although one should replace their throttles with stunt venturis.
