TOM LAY'S / T&L SUPER TIGRE TIPS

Hi Guys: Recently I have received numerous requests for rework, from flyers who have purchased enough miscellaneous Super Tigre parts, for me to build them a competive motor. I am offering the following comments to save many of you, the disappointment of finding out that this doesn't work!!!
Super Tigre produced 3 versions of the ST G21.46 AND the ST V.60. Believe it or not there are 3 different, and usually NON- interchangeable parts for each size motor. There are 3 DIFFERENT versions of: crankcases, crankshafts, rods, pistons, rings, thrust washers, and heads. I think the only interchangeable parts are the bearings, and the wrist pin.
No, I cannot describe the differences, and there is no way to create an accurate list, so please don't ask.
I suggest buying a complete motor from someone, or from ebay, and NOT buying one, piece by piece. IT WON'T WORK !!!
I am trying to save you a lot of hassle, and agony, and I apologize that I don't have more time to contribute to Leonard's EXCELLENT Stunt Forum !!!!

Tommie. I still think my brilliant idea of turning down the head/cylinder fins on your ST 51 is a good idea. I love the motor, but those fins are some ugly. If I only had a lathe, I would do it at once!

I can see you haven't played cowboys vs. summer yet, Lucky.
But I can confirm what Tom says about the ST 60. Last year I acquired some ST 60 parts. It was a Perry 60 sleeve and case. Only problem is that the Perry ports in the sleeve are blocked by the crankcase. This may be a sleeve for a G.60 Bluehead. Who knows.

As a matter of fact, Rickii and I moved to Tucson July 18th. It was only 105 degrees the day the moving van pulled up and they sweltered for 6 hours unloading our belongings.

August was the worst but the weather we are having here now makes everything right with the world.

Oh... Did I mention Rickii's cooking?

Lucky. Well, we had the choice. Selling our $1M place in Los Altos CA, we opted for Oregon. Maybe a bad move, but too late! (we are still thinking of a second home in Tucson).

Tom Lay is doing well, I think. Tommie is puting an Aero Ply spark ignition unit in his new FF model, so I know he is flying every week.

I just got my new Won-Ton Super Tigre G.51 yesterday. Power was out here, but the Fed-Ex truck worked as usual, much slower than the brown truck, IMO.

Points of interest (?): 1) Serialized, #306, probably starting with the Chinese production. 2) No where, no how, does it say "Made in Italy" anyplace on anything. I suppose those would have been old castings, if not old castings fully machined in Italy. 3) It does say "China" in the backplate cavity. 4) The backplate is 'luminum, not plastic. 5) Floyd, if you insist on a round engine, it will not be a ST G.51. You will be under the head bolts, and it still won't clean up to be round. 6) All the screws are socket head machine screws; no longer do we have to suffer with those miserable fillister (sorta) headed screws. It looks to me that they're trying hard to get it right. Wad aboud da muffla? Steve

Steve. Tommie Lay didn't send the stock ST muffler because we agreed it weighs more than the bare motor! Although I'm trying to get away from tongue mufflers, I haven't been able to find a light tube muffler for the S.T. 51. So in the meanwhile, I'm using a tongue muffler from Windy. I think I can retrofit the muffler at a later time.

Big Art's tube muffler for the OS .46LA is 51g., as I recall. Dunno about the G.51 unit. Nice piece, however. Leonard should be able to get you one. I will also check with Rich Oliver, as his RO-Jett tube generic .40 muffler is the lightest I've got, at 35g. Steve

Last night, I emailed Rich Oliver about his RO-Jett side exhaust mufflers, and gave the bolt pattern for the ST G.51 (1.512"). This (Sunday) AM, I had a reply. The .60 size muffler will fit fine, and I'll have two by the end of the week. Thanks for the great service, once again, Richard! Oh, $40 (+$6 S&H) each. Steve

In tonight's mail (Wednesday), I received the two RO-Jett mufflers from Rich Oliver. Three days from Houston, TX...gotta like that! I stuck a muffler on the scale first, only 37 grams. This is quite a lot like the standard .40/.46 muffler, but longer, and with a bigger flange, different bolt spacing, etc. That's only 2 grams more than the smaller muffler, due to the weight saved by the slots in the stack area. The new G.51, with RO-Jett muffler weighs 354g, as shown. See picture! The stock ST muffler was 142g, by itself.

This is such a cool muffler, and the new Won Ton G.51 is so nice looking (don'tcha just love the weedeater look? )...seriously, it does look every bit as nice as an Italian made version. Anyway, I wanted to give y'all a "Heads Up" on the RO-Jett muffler for the ST G.51. I'm hoping it will fit my ST .60bb, with the adapter gizmo that BA sells. Can anybody post a picture of that device? Weight? Hole spacing? Steve
