Engine for a Jr. Flite Streak?

I built this plane with the idea of putting together a decent running Green Head Torp .15, but I'm having second thoughts and wondered what would be a good available substitute? I may have to close up the mounts a little but that's okay. Any suggestions?

The Torp .15 is just about what it was designed for. A Tee Dee .09, Medallion .15, Fox .15 slant plug, OS .10 fp, PAW 1.5cc all should be just fine with minor line length adjustments.

I can't include the PAW among those I have seen and/or tried on the Jr. Streak. I have seen Jim T's with the TeeDee 09 flying. It's quick!

A Medallion 09 is a better choice in this case. Among the most widely available of 15's that would be suitable is the OS that followed the Max III, referred to sometimes as a "Max-S" 15. They are milder running than the Max- 1/II/III's (which were in many ways cloned GH engines).

Among modern engines in the 15 size, other than the FP, these tend to be as heavy, or heavier, than the "period" 19's, so usually nose-heavy on a plane with these dimensions. Modern 10's are a more reasonable weight, and have more than adequate power.

A Torp 15 should be fine for a Jr. Flitestreak. An LA 10 will fly one OK. A TD 09 is really too much engine if you want to fly stunt. If I build another one, I'm going to try a Medallion 09.

Actually my two Torp .15s each have issues. I could probably make one run but I'd rather punt and put something less vintage on it. An Enya .15 would probably work fine (if I had one I'd mount it and go) but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with anything newer that is readily available?

The Enya 15-III is a very good match and is from the correct time period. They show up all the time on Ebay and the prices aren't very high. A lot of them don't have much run time because they take so long to break in. Run 22-29 % all castor and the engine will last just about forever.

Another choice is the Fox 15 slant plug model. They are also from the correct time period and show up on Ebay all the time too. They wear out quicker than the Enya and are lighter.

Parts for both are still available unlike the Torps.

I ran my Brodak jr Streak with an Enya 19v and Dubrow bolt on adjustable tongue muffler. (Found these at a swap.) Flew smooth and grooved. A tad nose heavy no doubt. Seemed capable of the pattern, which I was learning. Plunked it bad, plan to build another. Looking for a cheap Bro kit now, or will build from plans if I can figure how to do the two part leading edge without a router. Very fond of this combo.

Although an Enya 19 is on the large size, it did not appear to overpower the model. The mild tune of the engine was a good match. It fed well on suction and proved reliable through insides and outsides, running quite stable once the tank height was worked out. A torp runs faster, more of a Streak. Dan Banjok has a jr Magician he flies at 100 miles an hour or so using an La15. Does the pattern, just don't blink. The old Enyas are appropriate to sport/stunt because they run slower then the foxes, torps etc in that size range. I am a fan of Enya 19s, found them docile and long lived.

Fox 15 baffle, steel fin or monoblock.

Enya 15-III baffle.

OS 15-II or III.

And the Greenhead 15.

Tee Dee or Medallion .09.

Modern Asian Rim .10 ABC Schneurles.

As an experiment to report here, a Norvel .074 (.38 HP claimed at 22K?!).

In my limited experience with the Jr. Flite Streak I used a Thunder Tiger .15 GP.
More than enough power but was nose heavy and had to add too much tail weight which then brought the weight of the entire airframe up.
Using the engines I have now and when I build another Jr. Streak I would use my OS MAX .10 FP.
And from the excellent answers from the previous guys any of their recommendations
will work very well too.

BTW, a BigMig .061 venturi WILL fit in a BigMig .074. Been too cold to see how it runs though.
