Hey, really cool.. You are allot farther along than I am on the Skylark, don't have it in one piece yet but getting there. What does it weigh at this stage? Close to the fun decision of what to finish it with or have you already decided?

So far all my pieces add up to 19 ounces, the blocks are not hollowed yet and no hardware except the bellcrank and pushrod in the wing.

Current weight is 44 oz. The wings/elevator already have 6 coats of Brodak nitrate and silkspan. Needs fillets, tank, glass the nose, and paint. Er, and gear. Hopefully will look something like this plastic model.
Going to silver it and then try dyed dope with Higgins fade proof ink, the red and yellow mixed, to hopefully get a nice orange color that is light. Will test first to see if it will work.

Great looking piece! I wonder if the dyed silkspan might be a way to minimize weight of a finish coat by serving as a properly colored undercoat?

Brodak has introduced some new colors to his line; Bellanca Orange, Cruiser Orange, Sunburst Orange. I would call and ask for a color chip of each of these new colors. They might be just what you are looking for. Darn nice looking plane. Just don't do like the originals did in the last days!!

Sh…., don't tell Alan Brickhaus. It's a modified Buccaneer 740 plan and foam wing he gave me 2 years ago.

Ain't "originality" a wonderful thing? Sounds just like what so many guys did with a Nobler back in the '60s.
Maybe the Buccaneer series will become the next "modifiable" ships for this!!??

That looks really nice! The orange finish will definitely look good as well as being authenic. There are quite a few WWII Japanese fighters that would look good as stunt ships.
Want to hear how that Saito 40 does when you fly it!
