I just put one of my Super Tigre G-21 .46's up for sale on ebay. If anyone is looking for one here's your chance. Starting bid ten bucks, no reserve. Item # 3169113797.

After I posted this it occurred to me that I probably should have put it in the for sale department. I'm sorry Leonard. Please move it or delete it if you think it's inappropriate.

My apologies, Nils

Nils, out of curiosity, why do you not accept bidders outside of the USA? Many of us are members of PAMPA and our currency is rapidly appreciating against the US buck these days. If we are willing to pay you in US$s and pay the extra postage why are we outlawed?

I have purchased many items through Ebay from reputable sellers with no problems.

Please explain.

Because I had a bad experience with a French Canadian that couldn't understand plain English written in capitol letters that said "THIS ENGINE IS BEING SOLD AS A PARTS ENGINE & NEEDS TO BE REBUILT". I had also stated that "it has the nickle peeling off the cylinder wall". He paid more than it was worth & was a major PITA until I sent him money back.
It's much easier to say "USA bidders only" than to say "no bids from anybody that doesn't speak English as a first language".
I also don't know anything about exchanging money & I'm not interested in learning.
I have already been contacted by a gentleman from this board from Australia & I told him that as long as he has 98% positive feedback, pays with a non credit card PayPal account in USD, & is willing to pay the shipping to go ahead & bid on it.
If you agree to those conditions you can bid on it too if you want.

That's why.

As a Canadian let me apologise for the lack of good grace and manners from one of my countryman but it seems to me that lack of these attributes is pretty well international right now and I wish you all success in selling your engine.

It's all relative#10 source

I was going to comment on the overwhelming irony of someone frustrated by other people's inability to read and understand basic English posting what is clearly an ad for an item for sale not in the rather obviously titled "Classifieds" section but rather in the less appropriate--but admittedly cluttered--"Stunt Forum", but grace and good manners precluded doing so.

One man's Ringmaster is another man's Flight Streak.

Thanks for the explanation Nils. I see the "USA bidders only" stipulation a lot on Ebay and have often wondered why but had no one to ask.

There is no currency conversion involved when a Canadian sends you an international M/O in USA dollars. When you cash it you get paid in USA dollars.

Eggy,

I understand and empathize with your frustration. Nils' experience notwithstanding, I think most sellers who post the no foreign bidders stipulation are concerned about running into big hassles with shipping, import /export duties and fees, etc. It's a fear of the unknown in most cases. I've seen (and written to) quite a few sellers who consider that, since the area in which I live is detached by your Country from mine, I live in a foreign country. One seller, whose item I won and who did not specify that only Continental US bidders were welcome, insisted that I make certain to pay him in US dollars when I sent him my address so that he might determine shipping costs! He was somewhat embarrassed and apologized profusely when I reminded him that Alaska had become a State in January, 1959, and because of that fact used the same monetary system he did in Mississippi.

I know for a fact that a lot of those sellers who restrict their auctions to Continental US bidders only post fixed shipping charges and are concerned that they will lose a bit of income because of higher shipping costs to offshore areas such as Alaska, Guam, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. When queried about their shipping methods, most stated that they used USPS Priority Mail. It turns out that the cost to ship that ST .46 of Nils', considering a shipped weight of two pounds or less, is the same to any State in the US of A or any of the territories thereof.

I apologize for the about the length here. This is an ongoing battle for me and others.

Paul,
I would have thought that the same package would cost the same to ship anywhere in the USA - but I have been paying different amounts depending on what zip code it is going to. Recently I have shipped packages that weighed a little less than 5 pounds. Carolina to Florida was about three dollars cheaper than Carolina to Arizona. Same size, weight, shape,
package. Overseas was a definite sticker shock - double plus.

Darn it, Nils, that's one fine-looking engine, and one day I'm going to get me one, but with 6-1/2 days to go, that beauty will go way out of my price range in a hurry. Maybe if I start saving now, I'll be able to afford the next one you put up...

Sorry Tim, but I don't think I'll be selling any more of my G-21 .46's. I *may* sell one of my ST small case V .60's but I'm not sure. Depends on finances. I bought a 2002 Ovation Collectors guitar & I need a bit more money to pay it off Whaddaya think?

Nils,

Nice guitar. But it's still an Ovation.

My son just sold every guitar he owns (7) to buy a new Taylor. Geez, he could have bought a Ferrari for what it cost. Sure sounds nice though. I'll miss the Gibson SG though.

I'd have given you $20 for ST 46.

It is always interesting what these engines will bring on Da Bay. I remember when you sold that one with the nickle peeling off. Couldn't have been more explicit. Maybe you should have wrote it in Zulu.....

Very nice, Nils! Cool axe. I came this close to buying one like it - it was heavily discounted (50%) due to some cosmetic damage, but it had no papers or case, and in the end there were too many questions - I passed. In the same store, though, I ended up buying this: http://www.takamine.com/?fa=hires&mid=931 for about the same price. I looked at a couple of Taylors, but wasn't as happy with them as I was with the Takamine. To each his own...

Nice Tim! I love the eagle motif, especially they way the did the one around the sound hole. Very cool. I bought a Takamine Jasmine for my nephew to learn on last year. Nothing fancy like yours, but a great little guitar with a good neck & not much money. Got him a Fishman pup for it for Christmas & gave him my old amp. I have several old Gibsons & three Ovations but never owned a Taylor, although I have played a few. They're very nice guitars but I personally think they are overpriced for what you get. I've played several Breedloves (the factory is only 40 miles from here), & I believe they are worth the big bucks they demand, however I wouldn't be comfortable taking a $3-$4K guitar to the mall to play bluegrass like I do every two weeks. Actually I don't like to take my '53 ES 175 Gibson over there either, but I don't mind taking my Ovations. We play unplugged & I have a 1985 model 1612 deep bowl Ovation that really booms out acoustically. Easy to play & sounds great. It's quite a bit louder than my 175 & I'm only in it $361. If it got broken or ripped off I would be sad but not crushed like I would be if someone ripped my old Gibson. The O can be replaced, the Gibson cannot. Only problems with the 1612 is it's an older model non- cutaway & has only a volume knob, no eq or notch filter. The Collectors is a mid bowl cutaway which is only slightly thinner so they still sound really good unplugged. It also has the new OP40 pre amp with the built in tuner, notch filter, eq & pre-shapes just like the one on my 2003 12 string Elite. My wife doesn't quite understand why I need 6 guitars, but she doesn't understand why I need 18 model airplanes either. Go figure.

Bill- I'm glad you remember that auction. I really did my level best to describe that engine. I tried to make it clear that the engine was for parts or at least needed to be rebuilt. I was amazed that anyone could not understand it. Oh well.
