Have any of you used the supplied plastic fuel tank. How did you get the fuel line to line up with needle valve? The tank hole for the tubing is 7/8 inch off the mounts.Did you bend the tubing inside the tank and then connect the pick up tubbing?I am going to run a Rustler 40 side ex. Is there is a metal tank that will fit if so I will run the Rustler rear ex. Does anyone make a custom tank for the Rustler as the muffler will hit a stock 1" thick tank. I have done the tank modification on another tank in another plane. It was the broom handle mod, very crude but it worked. Will the Brodak bh-487 work?

I am using one of the plastic Nobler tanks with a OS .40LA, and muffler pressure. It seems to run very well both upright and inverted while leaning out toward the end of the run. Just try it, see what happens.

I tossed the rusty metal tank, and used a 4 Oz round clunk with a Fox35 on aluminum pads. I've grown to like the clunk tanks on the last few I've played with.

I see some people using a flexible uniflo tied to the pickup, but I've been using a solid uniflo tube to the inboard side and short enough to just miss the clunk. You have to bend/swedge it to keep in snug to the outside and not let the clunk hit it, but it works great.

I would think the Fox would be more fussy than most if this were not right-on, and I get great runs upright and inverted right to the end of the tank, with a couple of lean laps to warn me. The trick is actually something you told me a long time ago, I set the tank height by the placement of the uniflo end in the tank.

Better turn up the heat, it looks cold over there! Brrrrr... Come down to the KOI and warm up a little. (very little, heh)

Hi Eric I ordered a Brodak tank thats 1-3/4 inches wide and I am going to mt the exhaust facing the rear on the Rustler 40. I will be at the KOI on friday.I haven't flown a flight since the Huntersville contests.I still only have 14 flights on the Juno.I new about the uniflow but I wanted to find out what others have done.HAS ANY ONE PUT A RUSTLER 40 IN A ARF NOBLER USING THE REAR EXHAUST?

No, but I plan to chop out the firewalls (two Noblarfs) above the bearers, and build a V-Deflector nose like Bob "Champione" did. I plan to use the plastic tank and shove it in through the engine bay. For power, I'll use Magnum XLS .36, Brodak .40 and/or GMA 2Star .40. Steve

Hi Steve I am going to do the same thing. I am using a metel tank and sliding it in from the front.The one problem the Merco Rustler has is the Muffler hits a one inch tank.The first inch of the tank must be made thinner by 1/4 inch to clear the muffler.I emailed Ian Russel about this and asked him to make a header or muffler change but he did not seem interested. The Rustler requires a custom tank to get the tank up close to the motor. I am making a adapter to angle a new muffler down 15 degrees.

I built a custom tank for my late lamented "squished" Brodak Nobler to fit under the manifold on the Rustler. Kind of a pain but I usually build tanks for my ships anyhow. The Rustler does have pretty decent fuel draw and you might be able to mount a tank far enough aft to clear that header part that hits the one inch tank and still get a decent run. worth a try anyhow.

One more thought, plastic tanks can be deformed with a heat gun, so maybe you could push the whole neck "down" to clear? It is a 6 oz tank, so you can stand to lose an ounce or more capacity, or maybe find another plastic tank that you can heat/mash into submission! The nice thing about the plastic tanks on a fixed uniflow is that you don't have to shim the tank, just twist the tube to move the uniflow position up/down inside the tank. Steve
