I had a spare set of wings for a Giles, so I threw together this "Big Foot" just before the weather turned cold. 60 inches, 740 squares, 41 oz. LA 40 with a 12/4 prop. Flies pretty good, with nice, 30 degree cloverleafs. Do have to work on the overhead trim. It has a tendency to turn in a bit directly overhead, which goes away if I speed it up to a 5 sec lap.
The second pic shows a bit of how the wing is put together- hollow foam, one piece to keep it aligned, an I beam spar, and a sheet rear spar to suppor the foam so you can sand it. Part of the light weight is the finish- light plastic covering directly over the filled and sanded foam. OO silkspan put on with polycrylic. lots of sanding. One coat of primer, 50% sanded off, and two light coats of Rustoleum. I went all out and actually masked for three colors!!
