There is a new scam on ebay it works like this. Find an item you want to buy but do not place a bid it will only run up the price. After the auction ends email the seller and tell him you are the high bidder and ask for his address so you can send payment. Get the payment in the mail quick so it arrives before the real buyers check arrives. Include the ebay auction number with the payment. The seller thinks the payment is from the real buyer so he mails the item to the address provided. You can guess what happens later when the seller receives a check from the real buyer.

Gees... it takes all kinds on eBay I guess. There is this one jerk that sells plans to make a gun you can mount to your car. In the add it says you can "mount this under you hood and blast other drivers if they make you mad". I mean what kind of low live scum bag sells stuff like that?

My uncle had a junk yard (well, in the modern vernacular it was an "auto salvage yard") and I once got a horn and put it under the bumper on the back of my car. When people would honk at me I could then honk back. It was interesting to see people's reactions as they would speed around you. I would honk about the time they got along side and they always thought there was someone behind them.

Practical jokes that are harmless.

When I lived in Mt. Carmel Illinois in High School 1968 I drove a 1965 Chevy. I bought 12 car horns from the auto salvage yard near the Wabash river at the edge of town. I put all 12 car horns under the hood of my car. I had to connect all the horns directly to the car battery with a 400 amp starter solenoid relay. The horns were so loud you could hear them 1/2 mile away. That was in the days when a car horn was loud. Horns now days and just buzzers. There is a service road next to the Railroad tracks on 3rd street in Mt. Carmel. After we use to park next to the RR tracks and wait for cars to come. When a car was about 100 feet from the RR crossing I would honk my horn. The cars would always lock the wheels and skid to a stop thinking there was a train comming and the lights were not working. People would look both ways and wait for long time before they would finally drive across the tracks. It was almost as funny as the frozed dog we stood up next to the highway a few miles out of Mt.Carmel going toward Bellmont. People would slow down thinking the dog was going to walk out in front of their car. People would pull clear over to the other side of the highway to avoid the dog. They would roll down the window and yell, "Get out of the way you stupid dog." The 6 of us hid in the weeds and laughed so hard we got stomach cramps. Dale Porter laughed do hard he wet his pants. When I was in college SIU Carbondale 4 of us stood up a naked woman manakin next to the interstate one night so she looked like a hitch hicker. Cars would slam on the brakes and back up lighting fast to give here a ride. The door would fly open and it was always a man stopping to give here a ride. When they saw it was a plastic woman they took off. The guys were probably thinking, "I hope no one say me do that." Then there was the time we built a 15" ddiameter UFO out of news papers, 1/4"x1/4" wood strips and birthday candles sorta like building a model airplane out of wood and silk span. We set the UFO in a field near the highway. The bottom side of the UFO open in the middle. We light the 30 birthday candles and the white news paper light up like a christmas tree. Within minutes it caused the largest traffic jam you ever saw. After about 15 minutes cars were backed up for miles. The birthday candles burned themself out and the UFO suddenly vanashed. lol

Last year of high school my friend Hammy Wright bought a car and needed some help moving it to his house because the car had no motor. Hammy got 6 of us guys to help him push the car across town to his house. We were staying on the back streets, turned left off 3rd street onto Pear St. and started down the hill. At the bottom of the hill was a stop sign on 5th street then it was up hill all the way to 8th street. When the car started picking up speed down hill we all jumped in for the ride. Hammy was driving and decided he was not going to stop at the stop sign hoping we could coast most of the way up the other hill. When the car came to a stop we all got out to push and there was a police car behind us. The police office told us to pull the car to the side of the road while he wrote out a ticket for running the stop sign. We all pushed the car up the hill another 50 ft to get it to the side of the road. The police office ask, why we pushed it instead of driving it. We told him we had no engine. He said, yea right. We raised the hood and showed him there was no engine and no transmission. You should have seen the expression on the police officers face. I wish I had that on video. Unintended joke on the cop.

I think if you forwarded that auction listing to Ebay they would remove it. Probably remove the person from posting again too. Ebay does not read all the ads so only someone letting them know would get results. They have a no guns or switchblades rule but you can always do a search and find them.

Actually, a rear-firing one would be best, as you are at their mercy when they are behind you, like an aerial dogfight. Does this low life scum bag sell stuff like this?

I didn't actually cry over it. I thought it was an interesting trick. I wonder if the guy did that on the spur of the moment thing or if he planned it. I am not mad at the guy for doing that either. I learned something, it was educational. I was disspointed that I did not have the item to send to the real high bidder I did not want him to be mad at me. It all worked out in the end I spent 3 hours building another CL handle to send to the buyer. I mailed it yesterday he will probably receive it tomorrow.

When I sell on ebay, I see who is the winner on the auction page and send the winner my own email and wait for a reply. The reply from my original email is the only thing I respond to. Completely avoids the stated problem.

I sent ebay a notice about what happened. There was only 1 bidder on the auction. The guy that sent payment mailed me a money order with the auction number and his address. I looked up the auction number on ebay to find out what it was. Then I mailed him the item that I ASSUMED he had bought. Then 2 weeks later I get another letter from the REAL buyer. I am guessing the guy that sent me the first payment is probably not a registered user on ebay. Its all going to work out fine in the end. I am going to send the real bidder the item he bought it was a lot of trouble for me to get another one but I did it.

I have EXTREMELY SLOW internet service. I think the number one problem is the telephone lines. Now that Bellsouth has internet service they want customers. I have Earthlink NOT Bellsouth. I just checked and my internet connection speed is 2Kb. Bellsouth does not care that I connect slow I think they figure when I finally get frustrated enough I will switch from Earthlink to Bellsouth. I have compained several times Earthlink says everything is working fine Bellsouth says the same thing. I took my computer with me on vacation and my 56K modem connected at 54K in the motel room. I refuse to pay $60.00 a month for Cable internet or $75.00 for DSL. I have all the instruction listed on each of my ebay auctions so I do not have to contact anyone after the ebay auction. If I had to contact everyone it would take several days. If people read and follow instruction it works fine.

There are also ebay sellers that want to charge an extra fee if the buyer wants to use PayPal. I turn them in to Ebay, it's so cool to watch ebay cancel all the sellers auctions.

What kind of person would bid on and ebay auction then REFUSE to follow the RULES listed on the auction page.

What kind of buyer would email the seller and tell them, "I am going to pay for this auction with Paypal wheather you like it or not, you have no right to refuse paypal."

Read the Ebay rules it says as a sell I have the right to acccept or refuse any payment I choose.

I refuse to be charged a fee by Paypal and if the buyer don't like it then DON'T BID. Send a check or money order any payment you like except paypal.

Who pointed a gun at their head and forced them to pay with paypal???

I guess I don't see much scam potential here myself, but it is very disconcerting to see the reactions to installing guns on or in our automobiles so roundly scoffed.

My Ford van has plenty of room for a mini-gun on each side of the engine compartment and I would sure appreciate knowing how to work out the mounts, where to locate the ammunition boxes, should I have both guns shoot straight ahead or is there an advantage to having the guns follow the front wheels and other considerations.

Mounting a mini-gun in your van would not be a good idea. The recoil would knock all the dirt off your van and that's what is holding it together.

That's no scam that any ebay vendor worth the name would allow to occur.

If any vendor ends up shipping the product to the wrong buyer, they only have themselves to blame for not paying attention to their auctions, not the scamsters.

But some of these guys will offer anything to make a fast buck and not pay much attention to how they go about it. Serves, mostly, them right.

Well, that will be a flip on the other merchandise scammers. A few people have told me about purchases and receiving empty boxes. Yeah, you can get verified shipping but that only verifies a package was sent, not its contents. I think the UPS store will pack and ship, so that might be a safegaurd against that. Be wary....

Gary you never have to worry about me biding on any of your auctions, I don't bid on anything that the seller doesn't accept PayPal. I sell a few items of surplus electronic junk on eBay from my business, I always accept PayPal and actually prefer the buyer pay through PayPal. The funds then become mad money for toys. If I can pay through PayPal it's like Monopoly money so who cares how much something costs.

That is the way I look at it who cares about the what 3% Paypal gets for their service. It sure beats waiting sometimes weeks for someone to mail payment. I almost never bid on an item if they don't take it. So easy to use. It's not worth my time running around getting a M.O. to send.

Paypal has been charging me a 10% fee. I think 10% is excessive. Paypal claims the maximum fee is 3%. Someone sent me a $1.00 payment and paypal got 33 cents thats 33% fee. I changed some of the Paypal options and now I get charged 6.2% fee. I have a friend that gets charged NO FEE at all. What the deal with that??? I feel like I am being RIPPED OFF. If I could some how lower the fee I would gladly use Paypal. Maybe I should just cancel paypal and start over again maybe I would get a different FEE. Anyone have any ideas?

What...10%!!!! They charge 2.2-2.9 percent depending on your account type PLUS .30 cents. If some one sent you a whole $1.00 then 2.9% plus .30cent is .329 cents or .33cents...do the math.

Ya and like the news media they only report what they want to, you won't see any reports from satisfied customers. I signed up for PayPal when it was first introduced and have never had any problem what so ever. I didn't like it when they forced me to upgrade my account because someone wanted to pay me a large sum using a CC, but they are in business to make money by providing a service that the cyber world has welcomed.

Bet ya most that have trouble don't take the time to read the rules and policies then complain because they tried to do something Bonehead.

An ebay auction I once had specifically stated insurance is optional, buyers choice. The buyer sent payment plus postage but did not pay for insurance. He wrote in RED ink no insurance. I mailed the item with no insurance. The buyer filed a claim with Paypal claiming he never received the item. The buyer never emailed me not even 1 time. I emailed the buyer several times but he would never answer my emails. Paypal requested that I provide proof that the item was shipped by emailing them the insurance tracking number as proof. Sence the buyer refused to pay the insurance there was no tracking number and no proof. Paypal give the buyer a full refund deducted $30.00 from my account because I could not prove the items had been mailed. I think the buyer knew this all along, thats why he refused to answer my email, filed for a refund and got the refund plus the item I mailed him too. The buyer made out good he got the item plus a refund. I emailed him several more times he still refused to answer email. I watched his auction bids for about a month and I emailed the seller of every auction the guy won to warn the seller about Paypal practice of giving refunds if you can not prove the item was actually mailed. The only online option Paypal provides is a space to type in the insurance tracking number. If you us certified mail, registered mail, delivery confirmation its no good paypal does not want that type of proof.

If you would like to get something for free buy an item on ebay, don't pay for insurance. Tell paypal you never received it and you get your money back.
