Any word on how KOI is going?

How did KOI go today/this weekend?

I'm curious too.

I drove up yesterday from Orlando, weather was ok, kinda windy and mostly solid overcast. They got 2 full rounds in for everything sceduled to be flown.I know they flew Basic, Beginner,OTS. The wind was kicking up toward the end and caused a few problems, but nobody suffered a major crash that I saw. Sorry I didn't take any notes so I can't say who placed.

This morning it was cold and rainy here in Orlando, and looked like the same in JAX. The front moved through and it cleared up down here about noon, hopefully they got a break and it cleared earlier up there.

KOI WAS A HUGE SUCCESS THIS YEAR
WE HAD SOME OVERCAST CONDITIONS AND 7 TO 12 MPH WINDS
WITH OCASIONAL GUSTS TO 15 MPH ON SATURDAY
TODAY (SUNDAY)IT WAS MIXED DRIZZEL AND LIGT RAIN
FIRST THING IN THE MORNING BUT,THE CONTEST MUST GO ON
SO WE SET UP AND HOPED THE WEATHER WOULD CLEAR SOON.
THE CLOUDS STARTED MOVING OUT AROUND 10:30 OR SO
AND BLUE SKY SOON APPEARED BUT,THE WIND CAME IN BEHIND
THE FRONT AND IT WAS A BIT BRISK TO SAY THE LEAST!
I WOULD EST. 15 TO 25 MPH BUT WE KEPT FLYING.
COMPITITION WAS FIERCE THIS YEAR, ALOT OF PILOTS CAME
FROM ALL OVER THE USA. WE ALSO HAD JOYCE HAGAR,JIM McNIEL FROM
THE AMA VISIT AND JOHN BRODAK AND HIS MISSIS,BOB DIXON,ALLEN BRICKOUS
RANDY SMITH,CURT CONTRADA,AND TONS OF CONTESTANTS.
RESULTS WILL BE POSTED AS SOON AS WE CAN GET IT TO YOU

We sould remind everyone that it was the 50th Anniversary King Orange Internationals. We had a great time, and it was a fight to the finish with Randy Smith, myself, and Rob Gruber in the fly-off for the perpetual trophy. Randy was flying his Katana with a piped PA 51, I was flying a Satona with a piped PA 40, and Rob was flying a Dreadnought powered by a piped PA 61. Randy's winning second flight was a solid one, flown in a driving wind.

Congrats to Randy. Not only did he win the 50th Anniversary KOI, his equipment had a very strong finish in this historic event. The fly-off was all box stock SV's, with box stock Snellville PA's.

What a great way to start the year!
