4 stroke Nobler

Has anyone out there tried an OS 30 Surpass in an ARF Nobler? We've got one in the shop and it looks really nice........

I know the Neal Beekman has a Saito .40 in his and is just as happy as if he had sense.

I also know that Z-man has a Saito .30 in his Brodak Nobler and thinks that it is nifty.

I have a Saito 30 in my Ringmaster and it flies real nice when all combos are right , better than a Fox 35 in the same plane. I don't think it has enough power for a Nobler as my Saito 40 flies the Nobler real nice. The Saito 40 Mounts are the same as the Fox 35 the difference is in the weight and the shaft is about an inch forward. The Saito 30 Needs a smaller space between motor mounts. After blowing the rod and making junk out of my RS Fox 35 i put the saito 40 in my ARF Nobler, just for fun, any way it flies real nice. See Ya Neal P.S. I never had to shim the tank and it runs the same inverted, even left the same tank as the Fox

I have flown my 500 sq/in Twistmaster with both the Saito 30 and Saito 40a. I feel the 30 would be OK for sport flying but the first contest you attend with the wind over 10 MPH you will be wishing for the 40.

Bob Zambelli is all over the Nobler with the Saito 40a. Saito 40a looks like the minimum for any Nobler.

Thanks for the replies, I'll see if the 40 Surpass is available and compare them. I won't be competing with the Nobler

FWIW, My Saito 40 weighs 10.8 oz and my OS Surpass 40 weighs 12.5 oz. Both were with their stock mufflers and stock carbs (just weighed them on my digital scale).
So if you don't already have the 40 Surpass, you might consider the weight difference.

Gentlemen: I have used both the (SAITO).30 and .40 in my Brodak Nobler, as pictured. It flys extremely well with either engine but the .40 just gives it a bit more authority and allows longer lines. The weight is around 41 ounces with the .30 and, as I recall, 2 more with the .40 (larger tank, too). I tried a Surpass .26 and it was fine untill the wind kicked in. I have also flown it with a Fox .35.
I would not reccommend the Surpass .40 for the Nobler. It's a brute of an engine and, in my opinion, just too much power. For what it's worth, I have a Surpass .40 in my Euclid and it flys very well at 57 ounces and around 100 more square inches than the Nobler!!!
By the way, two local expert flyers flew the Nobler with the SAITO .40 and said it's the best flying Nobler they ever tried.

Like a dummy, I did not read closely enough (long drive back from Florida!). You asked specifically about the ARF Nobler/4S combination. I have not tried it myself but Neal Beekman has and was quite pleased.
