Plans--

I know that there are a lot of plan purveyors out there, all of whom provide a service to us. Links to those suppliers are available in several locations. I'd like to put in my 2¢ worth on this subject. I have answered questions for folks about where they may find certain plans several times in the last week. At least one of those answers was posted on this site.

I know that Leonard provides this site as a service to the CL community with no strings attached. However, he does also sell plans! It's my opinion that, before asking on this site where one may find plans for the "X" stunter, or the "Y" sport plane, or any other older (especially) CL airplane, he should look for them directly at:

Checking the pages above and buying any plans we desire that are available there would be the very least we could do to support our host here.

I know that Leonard would never post this for himself, and I hope he won't delete this post.

Again, this is just my 2¢ worth, but it seems to me to be the "couth" thing to do.

I see Leonard has added some more as of 11/2003. He has done this twice, I think, during this past year. Very nice selection.

I have twice sold original-source plans here. Leonard sells copies. I also have copies of plans the same as Leonard sells. I'm not going to offer any of those for sale here.

In my new book, Flying Model Collectibles, I have an excellent resource guide with names, addresses, phone numbers and emails, plus any websites. The bibliography contains 21 books, and 59 periodicals. There are 16 organizations, 26 collectors and links, plus 27 suppliers all have to do with historical, vintage and classic model aviation. I am sure I missed some one as this was quite a chore to find everyone. I also tried to list every magazine ever written and their dates of publication, that was for or about model airplanes. Some may just contain articles on a frequent basis. The book also contains a complete list of the AMA Hall of Fame inductees through 2002. For eBay nuts I have listed over 600 "Notable eBay Auctions", not for pricing but as a guide to what occurs in the crazy world of online auctions. One example is, early in 2003 the magazine Aviation with the slogan, "United We Stand" and the Flag on the cover, July 1942 sold for the outrageous sum of $960. I have since got the same copy for $20. The resoures listed in the book are there so everyone will have a permanent list of museums, websites, and of course where to find plans for just about any plane a guy wants to build. I'm not referring to individuals selling plans here, only those asking "Where can I find plans for..." or "Does anyone have plans for...." I believe that wherever possible, those of us who use this forum for our own benefits should patronize our host's business, even though, to the best of my knowledge, he has never requested this himself.

In addition, carefully done on a properly calibrated machine, a copy is practically indistinguishable from an original and, therefore, is every bit as useful as an original for building purposes.

I'm certain that there have been a lot of items sold through the Classifieds" that Leonard stocks or has available to him. I would not want to see those ads or the exchange of those products stopped, nor do I believe that Leonard would. This would apply to your ad for the Black Tiger plans. By the way, I hope that the fellow who is looking for the Berkeley P-40 kit plans was not your buyer for those, as I believe that there are significant differences between the Berkeley/SIG kit and the original Air Trails plans.

If I did not make my thoughts on the subject clear enough that you inferred that I would stop or restrict your, or anyone else's, selling plans here, I apologize. Hopefully, this message will clarify those thoughts a bit further.

NO!It's not!I concur completely!Would you set up a sale table in front of your local Hobby Shop? It's rude and discourteous!

I have to say that I sell a lot of plans...have done for a while and will continue to do so.....HOWEVER...I would not sell them on this site as for some of the reasons mentioned above.

I have actually BOUGHT plans from Leonard and feel that if there is something on the plans list on this site, that you want you SHOULD buy it from SSW.

Sure if there are plans that are NOT on the list that you want to buy/sell go for it......but look on the list first...as Paul said earlier.....what better way to support the SSW team????

The Puyallup show is coming in about a week and a half. Will you be there? Will you be there selling your new book? Will you be there selling your new book and where will you be located? Will you be there selling your new book, where will you primarily be located and is the Swap Meet on your intinerary?

In other words, what must I do to avoid you while also getting a chance to snag your book?
