Doping for dummies

Gentlemen.
The last time I used dope, it was Aerogloss
and I brushed it onto silkspan when I was
in high school.
So..... What is the dope system of choice.
I have an HVLP automotive touch up gun.
I see Brodak at my local hobby store but know
little about it. I know nothing about Sig
dope either. I guess this is what I get for
ironing plastic film for years........

SIG is thin, stinks, and is slow to dry. Brodak is thicker, needs more thinner, does not smell up the house nearly as much, and dries much quicker. Guess which I would recommend! You will need to thin it with at least as much thinner as dope even for brushing. Use only Brodak thinner with the Brodak dope. They are made for each other and are a team. That is what makes it work.

If you are spraying dope, spray light coats at first. If you brush the dope on open bays covered with silk or silkspan, brush from underneath, turn it over and brush from underneath again. This keeps the drips from dripping through and making an ugly mess where you cannot get at it.

Cover everything with silkspan--all the wood surfaces--everything. Brush on a mixture of talc and dope (or your favorite filler). Let this dry, sand it smooth, add your colors, sand this sort of smooth, spray on your clear coats, sand this very smooth. Buff, polish, shine, and sit back and admire your handiwork.

I use aero gloss thinned at 50-50 and put in 1.5 table spoon of flexall per quart. I also use the High volume low pressure system. WORKS SUPER. Brodak dope I thin it out a little more Great stuff as long as the base coats are applied properly.
