Disasters for Dirty Dan

I gathered up some bits of trash from my scrap pile since Dan had asked about diasters in another thread. Actually allot of my mistakes eventually get used up for other parts but what I have pictured here span from about 25 years ago to now.

The first shot shows a general view of the junk. The case is just a poor attempt at whittling one with a hack saw, Craftsman lathe and a German milling machine (fine mill bastard file to the uninitiated). The head shows what happens when you forget they need fins, the cylinder has no material allowed for the liner it was supposed to get.

The second is my undersized piston collection, only a sampling shown here.

The third are con rods gone wild. The bent thing got tangled up in the lathe cutter, the other was proudly on its way to completion when I noticed it was .04 too short.

Just had to attach my name to this pile o' stuff, didn't ya?

When we figured out how to get more power from the VA .049 Mark Nones I had to make a whole bunch of rods. That bent piece of rod somehow looks real familiar.

Everything is relative. If you've got 40 or 50 home-whacked engines of your own production, this pile of scrap is a weak effort.

But if you've only got two or three runners of which to be proud, pictured junk is HUGE!

I am pleased to see that Len's Secret List of Bad Words didn't mangle your description of a particular metal working file.

Like I said, this is just a sampling, allot of the junk eventually turns into tools or even other parts, I cheap like that, and proud of it.
