Cardinal Evolution 40

I have recently bought drawings for a cardinal evolution 40. While I was laying out the wing I discovered that the wing ribs don't fit in the wing layout. Is it possible that my drawings are wrong or am I doing somthing wrong? Has anyone built one of these planes yet, and experienced this problem? Thanks Jess.

Now that just makes me mad. I bought my plans about two months ago and have just finished and test flown a Cardinal Profile. It was great, kit and plans. Now I too find that the ribs shown are all 1/4" longer than the planform of the wing. Well, I will just cut from the rear of the rib until it fits. Thanks for mentioning it, now I can plan for one known problem. It appears at first glance that this is a full fuselage version of the Cardinal Profile.

I'd build the wing with the full sized ribs and alter the fuselage cutout to accomodate the marginally larger wing. As my win hole cut out are nearly always oversized this would not cause a problem for me

Has anyone considered contacting Windy to alert him to the discrepancy?

I agree with Vernon on both counts. I'd contact Windy if I'd bought a set of plans from him. The Cardinals fly very well. Hurry and contact Windy before he leaves for England. Steve

Ty,

With a 54" span the extra 1/4 inch would give you an extra 13.5 square inches of wing area. I would adjust the fuse sides to keep the same moments and keep the extra wing area.

Good idea Jim. I probably would have done something like that anyway. I don need no stinkin plans. Besides, the wing cutout always is too big. But with all the kits I have, I may never actually build the Evolution Cardinal. The profile is hard enough to trim and I found a real dumb, DUMB, mistake. Somehow I installed the line rake adjuster wrong and it will not hold leadout rake, it keeps sliding because I installed part of it backwards. I will have to cut into the tip to carrect this. Oh joy. Ty

The problem with the ribs is not just length.Rib #9 has a thicker air foil than #8.I could not contact Windy this morning but I did email Elliot Scott so I am sure the problem will be resolved. Thanks Jess.

Whether you build from scratch or build a kit, you should stack sand the ribs so that they will all be identical or taper progressively. If not before building plan on it after building, because "stuff happens"! A major part of model building is figuring out how to fix parts that don't fit right, so the best thing is to just deal with it. Steve

Elliot Scott contacted me today, and confirmed that some of the drawings had the ribs numbered wrong, ribs #6,7,8,9. He had already emailed out the corrections to everyone who had ordered, I just must have been missed.
I guess you could say "problem dealt with."

Well, my assumption that the Evolution was a full fuse version of the profile was very wrong. The inside wing is the same span and sweep, but that is where it all stops. The evolution is definitly a bigger plane. I think the only parts that culd be used form the profile kit are the wheel pants, and that is just a guess. ffNow I am itching to start building the Evolution, all this talk and looking over the plans again. But first the Juno, Stiletto, Magnum, Cavalier, 52 Nobler, etc.
