Barnstormer 2004 from Allen Brickhaus

Thought I would attempt to post the two pictures of my new Barnstormer finished this morning during an ice storm over Golconda(01=25-04).

Hi Al,

That ice and snow storm is here in Northern Virginia now!
maybe I can get more done on my TT Pro .25 powered Twister III
tomorrow if the Feds decide to call off work due to weather!
For that though there needs to be at least 8" of snow or freezing
rain in the AM.

Hate to say it, but... I think you with be blessed with both for monday. Plan on working on the Twister!

I think I'm going to head back to Florida if this keeps up. That or start to try and build a model that looks as good as Allen's.

What techniques did you use for making the "decal"?

From what I see on the images it is a sweet looking airplane. Too bad you couldn't have flown it Florida this month. At least there wouldn't be any ice storms there.

Nice looking Barnstomer. Was it built from scratch or was it built from a kit? Is it covered with dyed silkspan? Tell us more about it.

The wings, stab, elevators and rudder are covered with Coverrite(sp) Lite while the paint is three coats of straight Polycrylic with the fourth coat includes Randy Smith's white filler powder(zinc sterate?). Then one coat of X-O Rust White metal primer, one sanding and then a final coat of the same white metal primer. The Barnstormer shown is scratch built from plans. I forgot which version.

I then masked off the fuselage and wing in the configuration as shown in the pictures. The yellow is also X-O Rust(True Value Hardware....not Ace Hardware) in two quick coats. The double pinstripe is an automotice product that comes on one roll. You put down the pinstripe and then pull the clear cover tape from the stuck down lines.

The Lassogeier decal was designed by Claus but comes from Axel Jungherz of Colonge Germany. We have traded kits in the past and his kits have been discussed in my FM column. Axel can provide these decals for anyone.

Ask Axel for his catalog. It is in German but he has some interesting kits to purchase.

The final coat is two ounces of Marhyde two part polyeurathane(sp) and the total weight is 35 ounces with an L&J Fox 35.

Now on to finish the Trianic for the VSC. Hope to get it done soon. I will combine the wing and flaps to the fuse as well as the stab and elevators. The combination of reds like the combination of yellows will enhance the Trianic.Axel Jungherz

Looks very nice Allen, I am anxious to see it fly.

I had a larger than normal hole in the top of the fuselage to correct a control problem and then went to the smallest canopy I could find to cover the hole. I just had to solve a problem. This is of course a deviation from the original looks, but the larger canopy was needed to cover the hole.
