Quick question on OS .46 LA & muffler

As written in another post, i have just finished a Brodak Cardinal with an OS .46 LA
It came out at 44 OZ with 1 1/2 OZ tailweight for the balance (less fuel).
Now i wonder: I have the stock muffler on the OS .46
Is there an alternate (lighter) muffler available on the market for this engine? This would make it possible to reduce the tailweight and also the total weight.
Any ideas on the weight versus engine will also be welcomed.

The LA is heavier than it needs to be. But the muffler is, also. I have tube mufflers that are 1.6 ounces, custom tongue mufflers that are .6 ounce. Light weight is good, but getting it off the extremities is even better (The "bar bell effect").

I sent you an e-mail in response, but am not sure you got it, so have now sent you a private message as well.

I am using OS .40 FP stunt muffler #762 - it is very compact and light. The tail pipe has very small opening and needs to be drilled out.

Uh, woa, I think you may have missed the weight a bit there. Do you have a postal scale to weigh it on?

Oops, my mistake. I didn't reset my scale after using the tare function to weigh out epoxy at 2 to 1.

The Mac's #6650 is right at 60grams, or 2 oz plus a little. Steve

Can you (is there still time) to put the engine a little aft?

That stock muffler is heavy!

I used one for a while. it has one good thing: It's silent!

Just get a tongue muffler, it wheighs 14 grams...

Norvada: My brother and I have flown the LA 46 extensively here in Dallas. We had best results with a tube muffler such as Leonard or Richard Oliver sells, or the OS 40 FP control line muffler drilled out. The old FP muffler is much smaller and lighter and readily available.
We also use the APC 12.25 x 3.75 prop cut down to 11.75". This is a potent combo!!

I have been using a RSM tounge muffler for my LA 46.
Very light and works well. Not as quite as the tube
mufflers though.

Sorry no web site. 7/8''OD tube <.030wall> 3'' long reduceing to a 7/16 OD tube-.342ID . Clean welds,minium scraches so you can polish aesley. You will be proud to put this on your plane! $40+sh:)
