To Boot Camp

Well, I sent Jake (my son) the boot camp this morning. He will be a Ft Sill Oklahoma Field Artillery battery B of the 213th. He'll be there until May 15th. When he gets out he would like to take classes in Law Enforcement. I'm very Proud of him.

Where is his basic training at?? Not Ft Sill I would think.....

Boot should be fun. Plus there are no bugs, poison ivy, etc this time of year.....

I'm proud of him too Scott. As proud as I am of all or military members including my son Chris who's been in the Air Force for 12 years now.

Ditto on all above...bless them all for doing a great job in a world that seems to get more unsettled by the minute..hats off to all that are serving and to all those that have served in the past.

Be prepared for a shock when you next see him. You will probably see that he is now an adult, with adult ideas and opinions. He will probably be in better shape than you ever imagined. I know that when I went to boot camp, I was a goofy kid. When I came back a few months later, my Dad looked quite impatressed and I'll never forget that.

Congrats Scott, and congrats to Jake too. We are very proud of him too. Our prayers are with him. It will be a tough grind, but I'm sure he'll do well. My son Alan managed 4 1/2 years in the Marines and it did him a world of good. Hopefully the Corp survived him too.

I remember how much my dad learned when I went off to the service...some say I grew up, I like my version better!

I just had the misfortune of attending the funeral of my wife's first husband's (she's a widow, he got killed in a USMC jet) father (flew in both Korea and Viet Nam, also USMC). We were very close. Also in attendance was one of his grandsons, whom I hadn't seen in 15 years. Now 19, he was on the last few days of leave before heading to Iraq, himself a Marine carrying on the tradition. It was cool.

Congratulations to you. I think it bespeaks of good parenting to instill values enough to make that sacrifice to serve. Although my wife and I disagree (with all due respect, she's given plenty, see above) on this point, I would like to see my son do the same.

Remember, the very best you can do for him is to SEND TONS OF MAIL, INCLUDE FOOD WHEN POSSIBLE (home cooked cookies ship well in popcorn)!!!!

I took Basic and AIT at Ft. Sill in the summer of 1980. It was one of the first OSUT set-ups (one station unit training). I was in the first cycle ever of coed basic training and I confess that a half dozen young ladies were a total distraction to roughly 300 teenage boys.
