ink lines smeared

Can someone tell me where I went wrong. I bought a ink line pen from Great Planes and after the paint dryed I put the ink lines on. A day later I hung the plane and spayed clear on it. 1st. a light coat then a couple more heavier coats. Came back a few hours later and in some spots the black ink line smeared. Is it because the plane was hung? Or is their a better procedure?

I had a similar problem on my USA-1. I did the same thing you did with the first coat light, etc., but I came back and shot some extra coats over the ink so that I wouldn't sand through when buffing. The thinner made the lines "disappear" when the clear dried. Answer, it was just too heavy a coat. I was using a gravity fed touch up gun (LOVE it) and the clear was pretty thin, but my lighting wasn't as good as usual. Mine was on a paint stand.

Try putting about 4-5 dust coats on and let them dry throughly before putting more clear on. In fact the first full coat should be only slightly more than the dust coats. Your ink lines will be fine then!
