Spinner, how to tell what size to get.

Me again,
How do you tell what size spinner to buy for you engine?
Say a McCoy .19?

I am a retread, - I did C/L in my youth and did not know what I was doing then other then having fun. And not much has changed.

depends on the nose of the plane. Usually, 1 3/4" or 2". Occassionally, you see one 2 1/4" or bigger in C/L. I use whatever flows in best with the nose of the plane.

If this is for your Streak trainer I would go with an aluminum safety hub. Won't break if (when) you crash, protects the threads on the shaft, will take a starter, comes in either a blunt style or a pointed style, if you need noseweight they also come in brass, and generally have enough color selection to match your plane.

I remember the learning process my friend and I went through, build 3 planes a week, take 2 out on Saturday wreck both of them and take the third one out on Sunday. First time I came home with a plane my mom asked if I had actually gone flying.

Sounds like you and your son are having all the fun.

Thanks Carl,
We are having a blast. It is real neat to sit in the circle next to my youngest and see the smile on his face as he flys his trainer. He is doing a fine job on the platter and I have built him a cadet. Just putting the finishing touches on it. I know I dont need a spinner but my older son would like to have one on the Streak. So I may just suprise him. You guys are helping us build memories, and I thank you.

It's like the first time we took a new 1/2A plane out and my 9 yo said, "No, I can test fly it." And did! That was cool. He has just turned ten and flies a Baby Flite Streak, Jumping Bean, Flite Streak Trainer and a Jr Ringmaster. This year he wants to gets his loops and stuff going. He did some pretty wild wifferdils last year!

About 1 3/4 inch sounds about right for your spinner. I think that's what we have on ours. The DuBro spinners are just fine for the purpose, and they seem to break and absorb energy pretty well in a crash.
