The Ringmaster is repaired and ready to fly again. I did a combat style bandaid patch job on the monocoat with all the scrap monocoat pieces I have saved for years. The McCoy 35 engine is like brand new again. I had a brand new in the orignal box McCoy 35 RC engine that I took parts out of to rebuild my Control Line engine block. I checked all the parts with the micrometer. The rebuilt engine has a new piston, rod, cylinder and crankshaft. Crank shaft bushing cleararance is .002 compaired to .005 before the rebuild. Compression is excellent. Now all I need is a new thunderbolt glow plug. The crash knocked the glow coil out of the other glow plug. I also built a new unaflow fuel tank about 5% larger than the other tank. The engine mounts were totally distroyed in the crash so I had to use an aluminum plate to hold the engine on both sides. Its amazing how many times monocoat can be reused it can be reattached with FastCal and then it shrinks tight as a drum again.

I think Jim Lee has a Skyray with a similar trim scheme. Are you able to get a 4-2-4 run out of the McCoy?

I was never able to get 4-2-4 out of the other McCoy 35 engine but now that I have rebuilt the engine maybe I will. I have tried to adjust the needle a click or so back from 2 cycle then when the airplane gets in the air the RPM picks up and it runs just 2 cycle. When the airplane lands I turn the needle out 2 clicks and it still runs 2 cycle on the next flight. When it lands I turn the needle out 2 more clicks then it runs 4 cycle all through the entire next flight. I have tried 10x6, 10x5, 10x4, 11x5, 11x4 props. I also tried 10x5 and 9x5 ACP prop it won't run 4-2-4. Maybe the fuel tank air inlet pressure is causing the engine not to run 4-2-4. I know too much fuel pressure can cause an engine to not run 4-2-4. I don't know? Doesn't matter much it flies great now that I have all the bugs worked out. I would like to try 4-2-4 just to see what its like. I can't get 4-2-4 out of my Fox 35 stunt, Fox 36X, OS Max 35, 25 or 40 engines either.

Gary,

And colorful too. Very cool.

Gary: Is your tank mounted hard to the fuselage? Or do you have padding in between?

The fuel tank is mounted to the plywood double with 4 screws directly behind the engine. The fuel tank is level with the engine. The fuel tank has 4 mounting holes in the back plate. The fuel tank has a air pressure tube that is bent forward so air pressure will produce fuel pressure. The air vent is plugged up. I tried the C shape screws with rubber bands to hold on the fuel tank on but if you don't remember to change the rubber bands out to new ones sometimes you will loose a fuel tank in flight. I would rather not have to deal with rubber bands.

Gary,
Move the tank C/L "up" about 3/16th of an inch and try it.
Set the engine a 4 cycle, and then point the nose up. If it "breaks" when the nose is held up, try a test flight. Go from there. I have never been able to run a McCoy (or any other engine I've used) in a 4-2 mode with the tank on the c/L of the engine on a profile.

Put some foam padding between the tank and the fuse. You could be getting bubbles in the fuel line from vibration. This might cause the engine to break into a 2 cycle. I would also second Bill's suggestion to raise the tank above the centerline. Somewhere between an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch.

Does that pressure tube go straight down or does it go back towards the end of the fuel pick up tube?

The pressure tube goes all the way to the end of the pick up line about 1/4" from it.

Cool Plane! I think you should just cover the rest of the wing in pieces of monocote as well - it gives a really cool look to an otherwise bland subject.

Not that ringmasters are bland

Just noticed your Ringmaster plans on Ebay. Hate to say this, but the rudder is on backwards.

This is something like what it should look like:

I wish I had a $1.00 for everyone that told me the rudder is on backward. lol Next time I build a ringmaster I will be sure to replace that pic with a pic that has the rubber on in the correct direction.

Gary;

My only hope is that the plans you are currently selling at least have the rudder in the right direction, or at least have an addendum to document the correct layout. Even though its not legal as you designed it for OTS, it will have the "look" of a Ringmaster.
