Friends,
My neighbor has watched the boys and I build and fly our trainers. I think he is wanting a plane but does not want to build. I know there is some debate over RTF or ATF’s and there place, but he is not wanting to build. Can anyone suggest a entry level RTF or ATF trainer? Maybe a .15 - .25 size plane.

Thanks
Paul

I am a retread, - I did C/L in my youth and did not know what I was doing then other then having fun. And not much has changed.

Tell him about the Ukey 35 and Ukey 40. They can be ready to fly the day after you get them. Great fun, and practically indestructable. Best value I've ever seen...

The Flite Streak ARF is another option. Not as durable as the Ukey series, but available in many hobby shops now and sized for a .25.

The older I get, the better I used to fly!

A vote with Tim-the Ukey. I'm on my second one, and even "dolled" up with some improvements, it took a whole two afternoons to be ready to test fly. And it really flies right!

The two that have been suggested--Ukey and Flite Streak are the only real choices at the moment. However, he needs to be warned. He may not want to build, but he will need to learn to repair. If he is not into repairing or rebuilding, he won't be into it long.

Pretty much says it all. Get him a Ukey and stear him towards a SIG Skyray 35 or similar Easy building kit to learn building with.

I agree on the ukey i have two of them now and building a third from a foam wing i had on a plane that no matter what motor i put on it it was like holding a vibrator when u held the handle i crashed my 1st one and just epoxied the wings back on and was ready to fly again the same day

Although this goes against your opinion, do him a favor and try to convince him to get a Sig 1/2a Skyray and a can of Rustoleum paint. He (or she?) will be amazed by the fact that he can actually build something that will fly!
