Fierce Arrow

Gentlemen,
I just purchased an old kit (Classic Air Models Fl.) or (RSM) that I think is called "Fierce Arrow" (Thanks Phill). Not sure why I wanted it but,,,,,, So my questions are:

1. Does anyone have any pictures of one of these finished? What do they look like??

2. Does anyone know any history of the "Fierce Arrow"?

Looks like it might be a real unique eye candy..

The original Fierce Arrow was designed by Wild Bill Netzeband and published in MAN 1957. It is a 700+ sq. in. flying wing originally powered by a Fox 35! Really different looking in the air.
I didn't know there was a kit. (??)
I have seen a few examples of this plane, and they are impressive.

Do a SSWF search under "Fierce Arrow". You should find at least two photos and some fairly recent commentary. Bill Netzeband has been redesigning the FA over a period of years to refine its performance. There is also a "Fierce Arrow '86" article in the 7/87 Model Aviation magazine by his friend and collaborator, Bob Baron. This one is accessible through the AMA site's members-only digital archive. Unfortunately the digital archive has been unavailable the last few days I've tried it.

I'm restoring an ebay one right now. Met the owner in Pa to pick it up last Spring, while I was in Va. It was bones, no covering, but intact. Needed flaperons and a cowl, both of which I have pretty much completed. Will get an OS LA 46.

The one I have has some very slight mods, such as the filleting/flap intersection. Oh yes, it has a trike gear, which the original did not have.

The picture was taken at VSC 1, in 1988. The first VSC was held in Whittier Narrows in California, and was a two day contest. It was a magical time, the weather was foggy, and Wild Bill Netzeband, George Aldrich, Ed Southwick, Bob Palmer and a host of others were there that I can't bring to mind at this time. I think that the entries in OTS were 18, and there were about 17 entered in Nostalgia stunt. Nostalgia was later changed to Classic.

VSC 2 was held in Tucson the next year, and the entries doubled. In the following years,the VSC went to three, then four days.

These days at the VSC, OTS has about 78 entries and Classic has about 80 entries.

There are actually about 10 real competitors in OTS, and 10 in Classic. Everyone else just comes to have fun.

Your question brings back one of my fondest memories. At about the '61 nats I saw someone who I think was Bill Netzeband (not sure on that) fly a Fierce Arrow for fun one evening. Big, Slow and would give you 6' of change from a 5' corner and just stack them one on top of the other. If memory serves, he was stacking SQUARE vertical eights two going up and two coming down like a wingover then going right back over. I've got plans for one but haven't had the guts to build it yet.

rag: Are you sure that this is a Fierce Arrow kit? I have not heard of one. Please give a little more description. Thanks.

Here is a picture of my Fierce Arrow 400 and the larger 800. The 400 has a S.T. 15 and the 800 has a Fox 40.
