the Motor Boys Engine Book

Randy Ryan has briefly referred to this book in earlier posts and in fact his Vivell 099 diesel was made from plans provided in the MB book. The lapping tooling he used is also detailed in the book.
The Motor Boys is a small group of enthusiasts spread across the globe, who research older engine designs and build them for fun.
After a while, the MBs thought that their accumulated engine building wisdom and experience, coupled with the excellent CAD drawings they built their engines from (done by one of the Australian MBs, Ron Chernich), could be compiled in book form and made available for the benefit of all.
The late George Aldrich was one of the original US MBs. At George's suggestion, the AMA were offered the publication rights to the book. All text and drawings were provided by the MBs at no cost to the AMA, with the stipulation that the nett proceeds be applied to the Juniors Program.
The Motor Boys Engine Book contains drawings and details of twelve engines and is still available from the AMA. Castings for most have been produced and made available by Roger Schroeder.
Those of you interested in model engines should buy a copy of the book. It will give you hours of interesting reading and at the same time benefit the AMA Junior Program, resulting in a warm inner glow all round! Go to the AMA website for details.

John Ridgway had a mock up of his (long awaited) Oliver book due out soon at the Watford swapmeet.

Looks like a must for all Tiger fans.

My cylinder laps are actually a bit different. I use a #4 tapered pin reamer and reshape the screw head to a semi spherical section. I get a much slower expansion rate that I find easier to control.

The MBI book is a treasure, not only nice drawings but some good history if you're interested like I am. I hope its someday updated with the later additions to the plans .

what's that .65 you're working on like??

If you go back a couple pages you'll find a thread on the "RRy/AJC .65 stunt engine". There you'll fine a couple 3-D renderings and a cross section. I am now researching timing and transfer port cross section to essencial finish the design. I have rough drafted the first article and will clean it up and send it out after I get done with an engine lobby exhibit I'm doing at work.

It's a nice idea, but out of the question unless someone such as the AMA comes up with the funding.
