Gordan Delaney's new Classic Stunter for

Here's a recent pic of Gordan's new plane. This is one he designed and flew back in 1963. He always said it was the best flying plane he'd ever had, but unfortunatly was lost due to close interaction between the line of flight, and the ground. No, he didn't crash it due to pilot error, the flap horn broke in its' early career.

He calls it Hienz 57 as he used a Nobler as the base, but changed a lot of outlines to resemble his good friend, Cliff Steele's Conqistador. The wing was influenced by the venerable T'Bird. The rudder and landing gear are from the Conquistador. He used his own moments, not sticking to the Noblers.

Notice the extended wing used by many of us flying at high altitudes. Total weight, with three coates of clear applied,is 37.4 oz's. He still has three more coats of clear to go. Brodak dope. 585 square inches.

I think he may have another winner here.

If any of you that are using the Brodak 40 Could you let me know how much fuel your using for the pattern. I need at least 7min. at sea level.Thanks for the help. Hope I don`t have to build a tank for it.As time is running out for VSC in Tucson.We still have a foot and a half of snow on the ground.

That is a beautiful ship. Will there be plans available some time in the future?

Gordon, I put a Brodak 40 in my Novi IV and am getting through the pattern on 3 1/2 oz. However I am pushing the margin pretty thin. 4 oz would be much better.
Do you have plans for that plane?? Would you sell me a set?? How much?

I don`t have a complete set.As John Miller is working with the plans for auto cad.The wing started life as a Nobler with my tips on it,which extends the wing to 56 in.span.The stab was change to match the wing shape. This is the second version of the same wing and tail #####. The first one had a turtle deck with Nobler moments. The Turtle deck version was built late 1962 and flew in competition in Buckeye Arizona in Feb.1963. I broke a nylon prop on take off and it tried to put it back to kit form.That summer I built the new version with different moments and no turtle deck.As soon as John gets them finished I`ll be happy to send you a set. Sorry for the long response to your question.

Beautiful airplane. I don't remember seeing one of yours that wasn't though.
I built a JD Falcon last year and used a Brodak 40. Started out that 4oz. was enough fuel. Lap times were a little fast in the beginning, but after getting lap times down to 5.5 sec. and about one and a half gallons of fuel though it, it was trying to quit in the clover. Went to a 4.25oz tank and that works fine. Feild elev. was 200ft. temp high 90's 10% power master fuel. Can't remember if the venturi was .287 or .281 dia. It is stock what ever it is. Don't know why the increase in fuel burn.

Thank you for the nice comments. As far as plans it depends on my buddy John.If he will finish up the cad drawings. The fuse plans I have are so old that when you unfold them they tare at the fold lines. Very bad shape.

Okay, now that's a very strange photograph. First of all, it looks like the plane is in flight. If you look at the front, you can faintly see a propeller in motion. Note also that there is an arm extending into the picture from the left. Very suspicious - wonder what kind of control line plane can be flown in such a manner. Must be about to crash. Oh, wait - it's attached by the nose to a stationary stand... I can make out its outline if I look close... never mind...

Nice job. I agree with the 4 oz tank. I have a 4 oz tank on my Jamison Special with a Brodak 40 and I can do the full pattern with it. I think I'm running an APC 11.4 x 4. Good luck,

I had the pleasure of flying the original Heinz 57 when it was new. It had my Fox 35 engine in it in fact. I've flown many of Gordan's models and this was certainly one of the best he ever had. If this one flys like the original it just might beat his enviable record with the Colossus. The model just did what you intended it to with no having to adjust your inputs to suit it. It was a sweetheart. Apropriate for Valentines day no? This one looks like it will be an ounce or so lighter than the original which can't hurt.

While I've dreamed of the day when the Colossus would finally be retired, I always hoped you would bring out the "Old Tony" and that made me feel pretty good. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOO, now here you are with my worst nightmare! Guess my only hope is that the "GOVENATOR" will terminate your gas credit card at the California border!

Almost forgot, I’d be glad to lend you my O&R “23”, of course I will rework it “Special for you”!

Hi Gordon,
I am late to the forum but I just could not overlook commenting on your new plane. It looks terrific and I wish you the best of luck at VSC. You could come over to our side of the mountains as we have no snow right now and the western slope has warm temps. Shoup showed me pics of your Tony and relayed your comments of how well it flys. Thats great!! By the way, we have a new flying site for our contest this year and we are hoping to get a good turnout. Hope all you hot sticks from Utah will come. The site is flat, flat, flat with lots of room. We will have five circles with plenty of space for practice circles. Labor day is the time, Front Range Airport is the place. We will be sending out more info and will get the notice in Stunt News by the next issue hopfully.
