I got a disturbing call regarding Bob Lampione two days ago, but, upon follow-up, the news isn't so horrible! The Champ (Bob is one of the nicest, most fun "Stunt Legends" anyone could want to know) chopped about 1/4" off of the end if his thumb performing a stupid human trick.... he was trying to break in an engine and the needle seemed tight. With the critter running, I hear that the Champ wrapped a rag around the needle and the whole contraption drug his hand through the whirring prop! Broke a knuckle on a finger, too!

Bob began squirting blood (he takes fairly large doses of rat poison due to his 5 heart attacks) and got himself to the hospital, where, because of his pre-existing condition, he was kept for observation.

Word's out that he'll be at Middlesex tomorrow, though not flying.

Safety should be on everyone's mind, and should NEVER be taken for granted.

See Ya

Brings up an interesting, if small, safety item. If you are on Coumadin or warfarin (as is Bob L.) or if you even take aspirin as a prophylaxis against heart problems, be aware that these meds increase the time it takes for your blood to clot, greatly increasing the blood loss from injuries. Be a little more careful. If you are on Coumadin, wear a Medic Alert tag to that effect!! And please be a little more careful!

This I know only too well! Just last evening, I was making a new tip weight box for my Flite Streak, and in trying to shave away some plies from the edges of two sides and the top and bottom (with a razor blade knife), I sliced into first my thumb and then the middle finger of the opposite hand. Each time, I raced up the stairs thinking "I've gotta start keeping band-aids in the workshop!" The cuts were really small, but bled like the proverbial stuck pig (just which proverb is that from, anyway?). Believe me, I'm careful around spinning props!
