The contest should be over by 2.00 p.m.

Trophies are old Walnut Trophies with metal airplanes on top which were originally won by the Adamisin clan,George Moyer,
Bob Redmon, Mel Duvall, and Charlie Bruce.

Raffles both days! Come to our contest with our palacious heated and Air Conditioned clubhouse which features an indoor Flush toilet! This has proved very popular with the Wives.

This is the last contest which will be held at our field; We are losing the field about a week after the contest.

We have found a new flying field! It is about 7 miles from our old one, and is closer to town and easier to find for out of town visitors. We will have next year's contest there. We can even take our new clubhouse with us!

The Awards I left out were the Charles Ash Sportsmanship Award and the K.K. Mclure "Most Fun" Award. I wish you all could have known these guys; they were really something else. You could have built a club with just the two of them!

It looks like I will do something of a repeat of last year's appearance, to encourage Jim P., McM, Hothandle, et al, with their SL Combat interests. I'm bringing a sister of mine along to spell me at the wheel, since she wants company on Sunday through Tuesday in Branson, which is comparatively close.

My street map of Tulsa never showed the east-west street south of the Best Western motel that goes all the way through, past the flying field, and I've lost the printed flyer from last year that did show it. There is time to send one for this year by snail mail if need be, or just scan it and attach it to an eMail?

Looks like some of the guys are planning on an unofficial 75 MPH combat match during the contest so bring your combat planes..

We've had a great crop of sand burrs this season so you might want to bring some knee pads. Sandals and bare feet are definitely not a good idea. Otherwise we are looking forward to a great final contest at this location. Last year we had a P-51 fly over and we have a small flock of Canada geese that often buzz the field.

We just received a new 50th anniversary Fox .35 stunt motor from Fox Manufacturing Co. to raffle off in our sunday raffle. We have a good raffle. come on down and see us on september 29 & 30th!

Last year the weather was clear and dry, and fairly hot for fall. The forecast now says "Mostly Clear," with a low overnight in the "mid-50's." (Weather Underground week forecast in advance.)

My weekend wear on 90% of weekends, practically year-round, is short sleeve pullover shirts with shorts and sneakers. Here, if it was 55 degrees at dawn at this time of year, it will already be quite warm an hour later. Do I have to bring some denims or khakis along for any morning chill in Tulsa?

K: I am sitting with my window open and I'm freezing. I would suggest some long pants for early a.m., but then again I don't believe the contest starts until 10 a.m. I hate long pants, myself, except its easier to wipe castor oil off my hands onto them.

Last year it rained all night. It was cloudy and cool all day on Sunday. Everything went well. Until I crashed into my fuel bottle and broke the wing off of my plane. That earned me the packederm award. I have that award in my garage on my shelf next to my radio. I am using it for good luck. I hope it will help me not to forget anything while I am building my new plane. One of the coolest things about that contest was when a P-51 Mustang made a low altitude flyby. That was really COOL. You could hear that motor rumbling from so far off. Then over the trees comes a Mustang. That was COOL.

The five hundred miles or so also includes a couple of hundred feet more of altitude above sea level, I think. So I'll be out there early to see how my engines want to run this year. The only nostalgic fly-overs I saw last year, I think, were AT-6's. That low flying Mustang Doug wrote about must've been overhead on Sunday.

Yep. The Mustang came over on Sunday. There are several T-6, T-28, and Stearman/N3N groups that are out occasionally practicing their formation flying or heading back and forth to air shows. Sometimes the locally based B-25 rumbles over.

I am trying to get back in town by Sunday but not sure if I will make it. If I can leave Richmond early Saturday I might be able to get back in time to grab a couple of hours sleep and make the contest on Sunday.

The weather this weekend is supposed to be ideal for a contest. The sandburrs were as high a French poodles eye but everything was mowed flat so now they'll only be sticking in wheels, knees, and foamie combat ships.I went out Thursday evening and did a little mowing and then decided to put in a couple of flights on the Skyray even though the sun was just dipping below the horizon. Since we won't be doing any more flying at this site after this weekend I considered these to be kind of my farewell flights. De Hill, Dale Marlin, Tom Martin, and Jerry Neafus went out Friday afternoon to finish mowing and get things straightened up for the contest.Three out of state flyers dropped by Friday evening to check things out and Jim Lee put up a practice flight on his neat little Stunt Queen. Doc Holliday brought along his Sheeks Staggerwing Bipe and I'll be looking forward to seeing it in the air on Saturday. Can't wait for the festivities to begin.

We had a great turnout for the contest even though we were missing a few regular attendees. Balloon bust had 12 entries this year! Normally we get about three. The weather was about ideal. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, and mild winds.
Marvin Denny and Jim Lee put on a neat double Bi-Slob demonstration following the freestyle competition on Saturday. When Jim Lee was flying his Bi-Slob earlier in the day he put in part of the flight while lying on his back which really took guts when you consider the amount of sandburrs at the field. Part of cleaning up your plane consisted of plucking the sandburrs out of your tires!
We had a lot more junior beginners this year. Marvin Denny has been coaching two of his grandkids and they both flew at our contest. We had a lot of entries in Expert too. Advanced had the fewest participants with three flyers.
Looks like we'll be at new site next year. Hopefully with fewer sandburrs! Thanks to everyone who flew and helped out. Hope to see everyone back next year. Elwyn Aud

Special thanks to CD De Hill for keeping things well organized and running smoothly. There were some extra headaches his year with the loss of the field and the annual contest occuring within a few days of each other.

Very true about the sandburrs!!!! I and the grand kids reverted to the old tried and true method of starting our engines!!1 Stand up while cranking, then bend over and put the plane on the ground. I told the kids that I would give them each a dollar to pick all the sandburrs off the floor mats of my car, and they said UH UH UHh , nope nada nyet plus a few other negative replies. When I offered to up the ante, they said negotiations were closed.
It was a very good contest and All the participants and organizers and helpers should be commended.

Thanks to Jerry Neafus we have a site for the new field free of sandburs. By next years contest we should have at least 3 good circles and a 16x60 club house.
