I know this is cheating, but as I hardly ever look at the "Events" conference, some of you may act in a similar manner and miss John Thompson's announcement of the 2004 NW Regionals this coming Memorial Day weekend.

I expect John to chime in here, but I believe the schedule for CL Stunt has been adjusted in comparison to past years.

P-40 has been added to Saturday's events, and it is listed as "Sportsman," so the Experts will just have to find another sand box in which to play.

Beginner and Intermediate PA have been moved to Saturday. I have not spoken to John about this, but presumably last year's heavy entry levels in Advanced and Expert PA dictated this change.

If nothing else, we'll have a lot of highly qualified judges for Beg. and Int.

Advanced and Expert PA will fly on Sunday as in the past.

OTS and Classic will be on Saturday, again as in the past.

The changes are positive in all ways as far as I am concerned. Well, less the P-40 class, but that's a discussion for another time.

What are the P40 rules? There seem to be a controversy depending on region regarding what qualifies in the P40, like maximum thickness of the fuselage, cowling, etc.

This came up because one of our members found some discrepancies in the rules regarding the “Clown Racing” event. He saw some people were extending the doublers and re-shaping the nose beyond the square cowl, shown on the plans. The rules states that the model should be built stock according to the plans.

Dirt,

This is great news! I'll be able to assist Allana this year instead of asking Dave Royer to adopt her and the starting duties. This should work for at least one more year....

Scott, If you only eat what you shoot... Nah that's too easy..........

See you both in Albany

3.1. The engine may be mounted in any configuration – side-mounted, upright or inverted.
3.2. Doublers or triplers and cheek cowls are allowed including faired spinners, but the fuselage must meet the “profile” definition of ¾” thickness by the trailing edge of the wing/flap hinge line, and the engine must be fully exposed from lugs to plug.
4. Engine: Any engine up to .40 size, including 4 strokes (no 60% rule here).
4.1. Mufflers are allowed and desirable, but not mandatory (to allow older engines). Any exhaust system allowed.
5. Lines: Line sizes must follow AMA Precision Aerobatics guidelines.
6. Pattern: Standard Precision Aerobatics Pattern.
7. Appearance: There are no appearance points.
8. Skill Classes: Whenever possible, competition shall be divided into two skill divisions, as follows:

Steve,

So, a piped, PA 40 profile qualifies as long as it meets the other rules?

Cool.

I believe this should read....3/4" Maximum thickness by the trailing edge...etc.

Joe, you're probably correct. But I didn't type it, I just copied and pasted it from my file into the post. My original would have come from JT, pretty sure. I'm not real sure if there is a NW Rulebook or not, but would hope so. I know I had a different version from Dave G., but deleted it when the "official" version came. Looks like a piped .40 is legal, Randy. However, as a "PAMAPA Expert", you're not allowed. Steve

Oh, not that's just mean. I can fly in the "expert" version. That's ok, though. I don't have a plane.

Randy, you can't fly in the "expert" version, because there isn't one, this year. You might lobby for Expert P.40 for '05...be prepared to fly it on Friday, if it happens in '05. Steve

Heck, I'm still ambivalent classic. I really don't have the energy to put into a 3rd event. So, no thanks. This should be a sportsman event.

The "Northwest rulebook" exists in the form of the body of rules adopted by Flying Lines readers via ballot over the years. I have copies of the current edition of all such rules.
These rules are published in the FL annual rules edition, which will arrive in subscribers' mailboxes within a week or two.
Contact me if you are interested in getting a subscription, which would get you the rules issue (No. 198). I know it's not as good as the annual swimsuit edition, but it's the best we can do.
For those not aware, FL is the independent newsletter of Northwest CL model aviation, published since 1979.

Thanks, Dan for bringing attention to this. One small correction.
After initial discussions, the schedule was adjusted slightly. The P-40 Sportsman event will be held on Saturday, not on Friday as originally discussed.
The mailer that goes out to everyone around March 1 will have the full details.
To make sure you're on the list, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll make sure you get the mailer. Please include your mailing address in the e-mail.

Bruce,

Pardon me, but I have not yet noticed a lack of volunteers when it comes to giving the lovely Allana any and all assistance at the CL circles.

Do you two yet have separate flight boxes? And how about those pesky nicad-based glow plug activator thingies? Is Allana's primary unit the one which failed you in B.C. last year?

Looking forward to seeing you both.

Dan
