Steve Moon just called me from flying (he is an airline host). He just got a new magazine from Japan.

Saito is releasing a new engine.

Saito 82. Weighs 15 oz and bolts into Saito 72 and 56 mounts!!!!!

Has the power output of the Saito 91!

The day is coming when the power to weight ratio of the 4 cycle and the piped two cycle may swing the other direction....

Godzilla,

I am assuming you have already called Al to let him know of this latest escalation in the horsepower race.

Ya know, the more I fiddle with my two Impacts, one with a Saito 56, the other with a 72, the more convinced I become that, for my particular needs in a PA model, the area in which I fly, a per-plans Impact, powered with a Saito 56, is the best way to go.

I might end up feeding it fuel with 30% to 40% nitro, and would want the model around 61 to 64 ounces all-up, less fuel.

The healthy fuel would not seem to be a problem; the Saitos seem to be almost bullet-proof so far, and it is the easiest way to get more torque.

I do know this: A couple nights ago I had to take the 72 off its mounts. (Cutting a hole in fuselage side, adding air scoop for fresh air to the venturi.) Ya pull that sucker out, heft it a couple times, and it is just so hard to believe we are flying with motors which are such a load. And liking it. As I do.

For what it's worth...

He'll find out the same way you did. Right here!

Low drag slicky plane. Makes sense.

Today.

It weighs the same as the Saito with the Perry pump installed.

Dan,

I have all of 2 flights with a 72. It's fine, in a bulldozer, all the finess of a stripmine sort of way.

OK, all kidding aside, I fly with the 56 with big venturi and lots of nitro and I can't for the life of me figure out why I would want to use anything else. Lots of power, tears through the wind, good vertical performance and good downhill braking. My brief experience with the 72 was that it was pretty much the same but heavier.

I know others love the 72 and Paul certainly looks impressive flying with it (of course, Paul looks impressive using a McCoy 35, too...or a Cox Black Widow for that matter), but I figure, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

For your airplanes a 56 makes sense.

Hmm, now that could mean all sorts of things.

My point was just that, so often, we're always looking to make it bigger or better. If what you're doing is working well, why change? I suppose there's a certain amount of "the grass is always greener" syndrome. We all do that to an extent. It's good now, if I just do "X" it will be even better. But heck, this is after all a hobby. Do what makes you happy.

I was talking with someone from the hobby shop today. They said not to get your hopes up on the 82. Reason is that they often have stuff there that they dont import here. Like the 56fs. Supposed to be a high revving light weight motor. Never made here as far as he knew and it has been in the Japan adds for over a year.

We shall see....

Doug,

Come, come. Where are your overseas contacts? There must be a sympathetic Japanese citizen that would smuggle, ah, that is, export; yea, export one to the states.

Hmm, maybe not.

Doug;

Can't you get brother Steve to stop in a hobby shop during a layover in Japan and pick up either or both the new 56 and the 82?
