Cost/Benefit covering whole plane with v

I was encouraged to cover the entire plane, including wing panels with carbon veil. Heavier for the wings, lighter for the fuselage then cut out the wing bays and cover with silkspan over the capstrips and bays.

This consumes a fair amount of veil which is of no concern to me but can you explain to me the benefit vs weight of this method? I assume that veil plus silkspan using nitrate will provide a smoother wing panel between bays and across cap strips.

I do know that in past, prepping the wood with butyrate dope then applying silkspan to the wings; I have found that the dope shrinkage pulled the silkspan down onto the capstrip edges showing clearly defined cap strip edges with some depression in the surface skin. Other birds do not show this. I assumed they were prepped with nitrate dope or non tautening butyrate dope. Won't make that mistake again.

Not sure who recommended this but I wouldn't do it. What you describe doesn't make allot of sense if you think about it.

Edit:

The trick to smooth cap strips is filling the wood before applying the covering, I never remember to do it but have heard Brodak primer works well.

In the process of building my Legacy I sanded the leading edge sheeting pretty thin in a few places so got the bright idea to cover the leading edge sheeting with CF before covering the wing. Ended up being a nightmare of extra filler and added weight.
