1/2A fuel

Just looking thru the Tower Hobbies catalog, and found Sig 1/2A fuel listed for much less than the Cox offering. I have a Norvel .061, and have read the Norvel propaganda that I should run it ONLY on their $ flavor of fuel, lest premature baldness, shortness of breath, and possible crashes occur. I think the Sig should do as well as anything else. Or is there sumpin' I don't know waiting bite me?

The last time I looked at the Norvel website, it had Sig Championship castor fuel on its recommended list of fuels. It's all we run.

The key is adequate castor oil. Total oil content should be 18% if all castor, or about 20% if castor/synthetic mix. Nitro a minimum of 15% for C*x, though Norvels were originally designed for 0% nitro, I understand, and need extra head gaskets to run right on more nitro.

I believe the thing that NORVEL stresses is to use a fuel from their preferred list. Others may work but those are the ones they have tested. Some fuels intended for larger engines have anti-foaming agents, etc. that work well in most engines but foul the plugs (permanently) in NORVEL engines due to the lower operating temps. Same reason to not use rubber tubing or fueler.
Maybe fact, maybe not. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Anyway, what's so bad about NORVEL fuel? I like it.

hey,
I have a norvel .049 engine, and i run it on 15% morgan fuel and it runs great. I myself have had no problemons and i don't see why you would have them. Just go with a fuel with a nitro content of atleast 15%.

I've been running Morgan cool power 30% heli fuel in my Norvels and cox engines for a long while. I add 2 ounces of Sig castor per gallon. I start out with 2 head gaskets in the Norvels and as the engine ages one gets removed. The cox engines seem to love the fuel never had an issue fuel or lube related yet. Only thing Ive noticed is I have to run them with the needle bout a 1/2 turn out farthure than with 10% but I look at that as all the more lube for the bottom end.

I just remembered something and confirmed it on the web. If you look up "Wildcat Fuels" you will find that they make both Cox and Norvel fuel.
Hmm, Nicholasville is close to Lexington...wonder if that influenced their name?
