new old timer (Belfrey Bound)

Here are some photos of my new Belfrey Bound that will use a Atwood Glowdevil 60. I am trying to get done for Tucson.This was the hardest tail assembly that I ever made the hings are made with balsa and brass tubing and wire.

Very impressive work. I always liked this design.

I love the hinge setup.

One question I forgot is what is the final finish/color scheme going to be. The white with metallic plum moneykote you had on your other one was beautiful and seems to "fit" this design somehow. Hope you'll use it again. I was amazed when I found out it was an "iron on". Absolutely gorgeous work.

How about some more shots of the engine installation. I'd love to see how you snaked that GloDevil's rear intake in behind the firewall.

Just looked again, this doesn't have the vertical portion like the Attwood Champ does it, and the needle valve assembly isn't installed either, right?

The last Atwoods made (both glow and spark ignition) have a straight intake out the backplate and lack the vertical "chimney" part. The NVA sits parallel to the axis of the cylinder in the intake. Charlie Bruce had one (sparkie) in his "Flying Star" rendition at the last VSC. As I recall they are actually .63 displacement rather than a .60. The "Glo-Devil" is just the Champ with the sparkie equipment stripped off it and a glow plug.

There were ignition and glow versions of the Champ/GloDevil with both the vertical stack and the sawed off. Look close and you'll note GD in the circle above Atwood. This is a GloDevil with the vertical stack.

I thought that is what I said. Sorry, my poor typing skills. You are correct- they come in quite a number of variations. At the end they were putting together all kinds of combos of parts. The straight intake is supposely the last of the line .
The one Charlie Bruce has had a rather scarce pre-War case with a late type back plate and high compression head with a two speed timer. A real hybrid. Who built it I have no idea- I know the motor because it came out of my collection.
I still have two Atwood Triumph .51 glows and like them a great deal.

I thought you ment that the GloDevils were the short stacked models. There were allot of variants as you say and I don't think they can be chronicled, I'd like to see somebody try though.

I'd like to see that too. Much like McCoys and Johnsons, they seem to come in an almost endless stream of variations. The two Triumphs I have appear identical except one has a serial# on it and the other one doesn't and the one with the # has a ringed piston while the one without the # is lapped.

The intake goes into the fire wall and in into the rounded block behind the firewall and the needle valve comes out of the inside cheek cowl and here is the color scheme for the new one.
