Is a Profile Oriental Classic Legal?

More than likely you could fly it in Classic....you can around these parts for sure. You get banged pretty hard for lack of fidelity to original design though, or should at least.

Crist, I've fought one of these for years and it's flying pretty well now. Brodak40. But if I do another one, I'll reduce the flap area somewhat. The profile version has more flap area than does the original full fuse plane- because it's a profile using the same wing. My full fuse Orientals flew better than my profile. Best,

At Brodaks (No fidelity points used) & Cleveland (20 Fidelity points) contest they are legal.

If you will look in the archived threads, Tom Neibuhr talked about this on september 24, 2002. The name of the thread is Oriental and profile Oriental.

Tom talked to Dee Rice, and Dee told him that there were profile Orientals flying back then.

So the answer is yes, they are legal and you won't lose fidelity points.

Thanks for the reply. I did search the archives first, but didn't see that hit. As a matter of fact, I did several different searches and must have miss it. I couldn't find Dee Rice in the profile section to email him or PM directly either. Musta been a "senior moment".

Yes the Profile version of the Cavalier is Classic Legal!
John built some as profiles during the middle late 60's

Edit, Edit....Ummmm, and so is the Profile Oriental as far as I know.

Now that Jim has edited his comment, we can safely hijack this thread to talk about senior moments.

Is there a limit on how many senior moments we can have in a given flight? I also had a serious senior moment at last summer's Brodak meet: I forgot to pull out of the first outside loop. The airplane made a loud "Thunk" as it buried itself into the mud.

I think my first senior moment was when I came back into CL after a 37-year absence. As if I could almost recreate the reflexes and skills lost a long time ago.
