About the ARF Nobler

For any of you that are using the Fox 35 or DS 40. Did you have to use an extension to get the required 3 5/8 to 3 3/4 disatnce to the back of the spinner plate? I was looking mine over, and the mounts are so short that I will have to use one. Just wondering out loud if they are all that way? I remember that when I built my Green Box about 40 years ago that I didn't have an extension, but the old Fox was just mounted out on the bearers, and was fine.

This isn't answering your question, but on the Brodak 40 at least, I did not need an extension. I know the Fox35 has a pretty short shaft, but my impression was that it would have been ok too. Could be wrong on that one tho'.

On my Nobler I mounted a Brodak 40 back on the mounts close to the firewall. This required a 1/2 inch extension. The cowling worked out ok and the CG came out where it called for on the plans.

I did a test fit with out the extension on the mounts but I did not like the way the B40 fit against the cowl.

It was my personal preference. The engine placement can be made to work both ways.

The Fox needs a 1/2" extension. Still mounts pretty far forward on the beams, but the CG came out right on.
